I am just amazed at what has emerged in the past few years concerning the ability to offer 40 - 70 hp mod packages with the inclusion of all, clutch/muffler/flash package for let’s say $1100.
This was the major reason for buying the Sidewinder last year, knowing that motor mods are not needed for substantial hp gains.
Man O Man, just navigating through this forum and others on this TY site, is a real eye opener with the knowledge, technology, trade secrets(Hurricane, TD, and others) are offering on their posts!!!
Heck, with past sleds I have spent thousands for much less hp.
So with what I have said and knowing (???)that this flash technology may have been first introduced with the Cat/Suk models, where was it’s origin from? Automotive? Motorcycle?
I recently read a post calling this technology WILD, I love that analogy and agree 100%.

Its nothing new, turning up a turbo engine. It used to be done manually, by raising the boost mechanically, and adding extra fuel pressure.
Modern engines control the boost using the ecu, instead of only the wastegate. So its just much easier and safer to flash the ecu that do to it any other way.
This same engine without the turbo (nytro/viper) makes almost no extra hp with an ecu flash.

So true.....Its only because its a turbo in there, that it can be wick'd up easily. Turn up the boost!
For any NA engine, it still take a ton of money for 1/8th the hp gain....
Have to give it to Ben at TD for working on the Cats from the early Z1 days....

I understand a bit about piggy back systems to control fuel and timing. My old Attak turbo had a Dobek fuel controller and my bike has a race tuner on it which alllows rewriting the ECU codes for any motor mod with out a piggy back system.
But this not new technology ( You Say), which allows control of the turbo and many other system management settings, also through the ECU, first appeared in what model sled??
Did that technology come from the automotive side. Honda, BMW, Volvo, GM Dodge Ford?
Just wondering, because I was in the dark until I researched my Sidewinder last year before buying it. Everyone was talking tunes instead of mods. Just a great leap I think.

Where were you in 2012? Just about every person here jumped on the procross band wagon turbo then, and it was a fiasco. But we all turned them up then....TD led the way bigtime with cat ECU. It was my first sled that could run over 130mph on the gun. Thats why these sleds are in there own category, mostly due to being able to wick them up. Stock they are good, but very docile.I understand a bit about piggy back systems to control fuel and timing. My old Attak turbo had a Dobek fuel controller and my bike has a race tuner on it which alllows rewriting the ECU codes for any motor mod with out a piggy back system.

Well my girl went to college so I sold all and had to get out of the sport for awhile.
Came back in with some cheap 02 and 03 2 smoke Vipers which I did not keep stock!
Blew both of those and went back to a 4 stroke, 06 Attak Turbo. A bit too much for trails on stage 2 and also a pain with all the needed gauges and octane. So here I am amazed with the ease and cost of adding ponies now, and all sharing their secrets! Simply amazing to hear.
I had heard too much bad stuff about the Cat/Suk to even think about them, but as you say most of their probs were fixed after a few years and lots of repair. Did not realize the ease of a tune until the Sidewinder appeared, so I kept myself in the dark.

We had most of this tech a while back.
What's new this year is the flasher tech and being able to datalog live.
Back in 2010 we came out with a Knock light for the Z1 turbo, Antilag, 4 ECU reflash in a single computer switchable on the fly.
And back when 205HP was all shops would get out of them, I tuned a Z1 turbo to 267HP on 91 pump gas with the help of my trusty knock light in the trails.
Then when I got called a liar by the guys who couldn't believe the HP on HCS forums, I went to Dynotech research and made more than what I had claimed...
And I let him drain my tank and put his own fuel because he couldn't believe it.
Now that kind of power is expected and everyone wants these cool features in their sidewinder LOL !
The Sidewinder is a better trail sled than the 1100 turbo.
But don't get me wrong the 1100 turbo can be tuned to be a fierce trail sled with EXCELLENT belt durability.
We have clutch kits and in house set ups that last over 5K miles per belt tuned. You had to put money in the clutch system and alignment to get them there.
The sidewinder is better setup from the factory. And the sidewinder can handle more boost on pump. Once we get the knock light finished, there will be much hotter trail tunes available !
It's going to be an awesome winter.
Here's a few videos from 2010-2012 as well as my 650HP outlaw at haydays last summer.
TD outlaw sled 650HP+ 54psi of boost
267HP 91 octane Dynotech research 2010
TD Z1 turbo on race fuel 24 psi hits 158MPH+ GPS and Radar stock turbo stock engine on ice.
132mph trail sled on 91 pump gas

God knows that I love speed!
Thanks for sharing those videos, they are very invigorating to say the least.

Now that a phone or mini can be interfaced with the ecu, it's just a matter of time before voice activated features could be utilized.

Here's a last one.. here's an 1100 turbo sled motor in a quad this summer.
We broke the quad 1/4 mile record 7.7 @ 171 mph... one HAIRY ride.
