Tunnel heat exchanger installed

I purchased a tunnel heat exchanger kit from a Canadian vendor for $197. It came with decent directions and the overall install was fairly simple, about 2hrs. I was a bit concerned about the fit with the trail tank but everything worked well.

If you install one remember to remove the rubber bulkhead grommets that come installed on the exchanger's ports. I stuck the exchanger in the tunnel, popped a few rivets in then realized the grommets were on the wrong side of the bulkhead. It also helps to wet the new hoses with a little antifreeze before installing.

I hope this cures the heat problem!

doing mine now......I made the mistake of putting my cooler in before doing my mid pipe....big mistake mid pipe mounts under the cooler...arg
 
I got out for my first ride Sunday with the newly added tunnel heat exchanger.

With my temperature gauge last winter without the exchanger, I never went below 190. On this ride the other day, taking my time in lots of fresh snow and only about -1 Celcius, it didn't go above 190. It was definitely a worthwhile mod.
 
You mean those rubber doohickeys were supposed to be used in the install? I hope I can find them, I think I may have thrown them out.

The holes through the bulkhead are plenty big enough for the exchanger tubes. I think the rubber grommet is more for filling the gap rather than protection for the tubes.

I don't have a temp gauge so I'll have to wait for the right trail conditions and above freezing temperatures to see if this thing helps. In this area I shouldn't have to wait to long.

Yep, look at the back under the tail light of an Apex...you'll see how there used there
 
I found my rubbers in the garage! I wish the instructions would have made a reference to them, but there was a pic where you kinda can make them out in the install.

I think that once I get the chance, I'll install them, but not by disconnecting the hoses. I think I'll cut through them down the length on one side and then slip them over the coolant tubes and push them into place. I think grizztracks is right and that they're to keep the snow from coming into the compartment.
 
Anyone know where to get one around oshawa ontario? i dont want to go to the dealer and get hammered on price for the kit.
 
That's where you get the kit, at the Dealer. Give them the part number 8HA-124A0-00-00 for them to order it. The kit is cheaper than buying just the exchanger alone, don't know why, it just is. :dunno:
 
Grimm,
if you cut the rubbers to install them get some good superglue and glue them back together. Use a razor blade to get a good clean cut. I've done this with oring material and it works well.
 
If anyone has had their Nytro run hot or overheat the tunnel heat exchanger definitely helps. Last weekend I rode in a dice run with above freezing temperatures, marginal snow conditions and reduced speeds. I always had heating problems in these conditions but now with the extra heat exchanger the temperature light never came on. These machines should have come stock with the extra exchanger like the mountain sleds do.
 
Same here, I'm very happy that I installed the MTX cooler. I've never seen the temp hit above 190 degrees yet. I feel that in the long run, this will prolong engine life.

went to that site.....listed at $395.00?
 
I just checked and it's still listed for $197. Part #62 for the kit: http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche.com ... &A=405&B=7

I think there's a mistake and they got #62 and #63 prices switched. I ordered Part #62 for $197 which is the kit and includes everything needed to install it.
