So who is our resident polishing expert on this site? I would love some detailed instruction on how to polish my tunnel. I plan on making this a summer project.

Its more than just polish. All factory aluminum will polish up decent but wont ever be mirror like unless you sand it first. I use 200, then 400, then 1000 grit wet sand paper first then buff with wheel (if possible) with Mothers, then lastly use Wizards Aluminum polish as the last step. It can be a very long process. But the effort is worth it once you see the results.

Blue,

You say to buff with Mothers. What type of product are you using from Mothers. I will look for some Wizards Aluminum polish. I thought I would try your process on a piece of aluminum I have to see how the process goes before I start on the sled. I would hate to do it wrong on the machine.

Matt,

That is just awesome! I guess I will be living in my garage as well. Any idea how many hours you have into just the tunnel polishing?

Umm, A LOT! LOL...I really never timed it, but I did spend a large amount of time on it. The more detailed you are, the better the end result will be.

Blue - that is one sweet RX!! - never done a tunnel, but I've done alot of misc. parts as practice - got a tunnel I want to do this year - it is alot of work, but your tools, products and proper techniqe makes it alot easier - the sanding saves alot of work - nice job!! ;)!

Most definetely. Its never to late so sand. Take you time though and dont rush it, the more detailed you are, the better it will look.

Wet sanding is the way to go.
I have over 40 hours in my Attak.
I started w/ 800 grit, then 1500, on to 3000, and finished the sanding w/ 4000 grit.
I like to touch it up w/ Mothers Billit pollish. When it needs to be cleaned up just some window cleaner works well. If not available wate and a paper towel
