Last year I went with a 1" track and added tunnel protection but I am not happy with my work. Anybody using anything that can be installed with out modification ? As usual I had all summer to replace and now at the last minute looking for the magic quick fix.

What happened to the tunnel protectors that came with it?

The original protectors are still there. I have 1.450 studs and with the stock 1.25 track they scratched and destroyed the muffler guard. Having installed a 1.0" track I figured that the protector should be increased .25 or there could be some serious scraping. I also installed the fat boy spring at the same time. Am I wrong in thinking I need the extra protection ?

Probably. The tunnel protectors are a full inch deep, so any scratching is a result of the rubber lugs bending over against the tunnel protectors.
Now you really do have to keep something in mind;
You're going close to 1/2" beyond the lugs. Those studs are WAY too long for a 1" track. You stand a very high likelihood of both damaging your studs, and more importantly, of damaging your track. Performance will also be higher with a shorter stud -- ie, one that stands up straight instead of folding over due to excessive leverage.
