I just bought a used 08 Nytro on Craigslist and it has a "turbo kit" on it. The turbo is a rear mount setup, and the plenum/fuel rail up front say boondockers on it, along with the boondockers control box. Boondockers website doesnt show anything about a rear mount turbo system. There are NO stamps or markings anywhere on the turbo besides the hotside a/r. The turbo has a 54mm inducer and a 70mm exducer, in a T04B compressor housing. This would be the 5431B turbo, which from what I can tell is for 450hp based on precision turbo's website. The turbo is internally gated and for whatever reason, I'm having trouble controlling boost. I wonder if the wastegate actuator is just sprung really tight? Boost just soars to 20psi and that's when I let off the throttle. The wastegate works and is functioning, I've tested it already. Lastly, the sled is running 14-15:1 AFRs on race gas. I don't have much experience with race gas, but I know tuning my car(s) I usually shoot for 11:1 to 11.5:1AFR and tweak timing from there.
It pulls smoothly up until I let off the throttle. I refuse to let boost go past 20psi because of the stock bottom end. I want to get boost down to 7-10psi and start playing with settings. I really wish this thing had a knock sensor.
