Turbo/supercharged phazer

So anyone who runs one runs a mixture of race gas?

I am thinking if I do one and do it right, It will get torn down, billet rods and modify the pistons. Of course this is a ways out, I really am just kicking around the idea of it.
You won't need race gas if you use a head shim. The Phazer engine is already quite high tech. If you don't want to lower the compression of fear of turbo lag there's better ways to avoid it. 1. Move the dump valve closer to the inlet. 2. Make sure you feed the turbo with really hot (and expanding) exhaust.

I've been thinking about going low boost turbo and have talked to a few people. The stock Phazer fuel pump/injectors is good for ~6psi boost and there is a PCV that will control boost boost and ignition on a Phazer. 6psi with NO intercooler would be pretty easy to setup and run on 91 pump premium and would make a good 110-115hp. I priced all the parts and it should come in under 2000$ easy, but I've been waiting to see if a used kit comes up for sale under than price.

MCX (Sweden) has a low boost kit for sale. I have no price info. Lots of opinions about fuel pump and btr (bränsletrycksregulator translate = fuel pressure regulator), but I run 0,8-1,0 with no problem whatsoever, stock pump and BTR.

Same here, and you would think that from the number of people that say "Don't boost it, it'll blow up" that there would be many used kits for sale. I've been looking since 2009, and have only seen two kits (both Boondocker) for sale, one for $2500 on ebay and another for $1500 on snowest. Obviously I can't check every location for a used kit all the time so there are inevitably some that I have missed, but they're not as plentiful as one would think. Two things I always hear, "Don't boost it, it'll blow up!" and "Used kits come up cheap all the time if you look around." Not sure if I believe either at this point!

You don't see too many of them that are boosted period, it appears that most of the ones you do see are used at higher elevations. So it leaves me hesitant about the reliability of them for trail riding. Does anyone know of a boosted phazer that has 5000+ miles on the boosted setup?

We have one here that has 15000 km... Mine has 2000 km.
At sea level.

Do it properly and it will last longer than any two stroke.
But don't expect it to be as reliably as a stock Phazer, it will need som maintance and adjustments from time to time.

If you just want speed and big horsepower, go for a boosted Nytro.

WELL, the MCX 115hp kit is supposed to retail for about $4600.................... they have not got any into north america yet.

I wonder why

just like the MPI superchargers that went for around $4900, everyone said why not buy a Nytro for that, well I would spend the $4600 on a turbo or supercharger and I would tell everyone that owns a Phazer to make that investment, it is by far the best thing that I have ever done.

I will keep my eye out for something used, I still very, very much love the feel and seating position of the Phazer. But If I do it, not going to mess with a headshim, it will be low comp pistons etc, want it to be completely safe for turbo use and last long. Dollar value per horsepower sucks on the 115 kit though. That price for the 140 kit would be OK

I have to say the 4 stroke turbo power is awesome on the Phazer. I have a 2007 mountain lite mcx kit and love it, lots of torque on the low end and when the turbo hits it goes like a bat out of hell. There are a few tweaks needed I have learned, like making your air filter more exposed. It doesn't get the same amount of air being tucked underneath the seat. I was running about 15 lbs of boost, i'm not sure about the head shim or anything. At 15lbs with the mcx kit it seemed a little boggy after hitting 3/4 throttle, so I lowered it to 11 lbs. The sled performs way better on 11lbs of boost, with little to no lag time and no bogs. The boosted phazer is awesome for both ditch banging or mountains with a different track. I plan on putting a 144X 2" lug challenger track on for the deeper stuff. Can't wait to test it out.
