It is difficult to beat the almost silly low weight numbers of the Float 2.
But magnesium cylinder heads, titanium piston rods and titanium springs will take you quite far...

And probably double the cost of your sled... What are you doing with rear skid? I am curious how the how the TTX work vs the traditional Ohlins. Cool stuff.

I have done nothing about the skid yet, simply because I have got nothing that fits at the same time as it is lighter than the OEM stuff. Weight is the key point of this sled. I will not install anything that adds weight compared to OEM, even if the suspension performance improves.

The shock in the first picture is a traditional single tube 36 mm shock, pretty similar to the front shock of the Apex and Attak 40th. This particular shock is full of parts from the roadracing scrap box, thus the magnesium and titanium parts. This shock is 150 grams lighter than the Float 2. I have only done very limited riding, but the same hydraulic spec as the european 2008 Attak 40th combined with a 18-27 N/mm progressive spring seems to be a quite alright starting point, maybe a little bit on the stiff side for a mountain application.

The shock in the second picture is a TTX30 shock that is normally offered for ATV front ends. Since I have got no exotic materials for this shock, it is still some 250 grams heavier than the Float 2. I have only done very limited riding on this one too. However, hydraulic spec C70R70 (from Ohlins spec library for this particular shock) combined with the same 18-27 N/mm progressive spring outperforms the first shock as well as the Float 2 from a bump absorption point of view (think crossing old tracks when fully leaned over in powder...).
