Ulmer air box mod question.....

I have a 2011 Apex. Installing an Ulmer air box mod with a PCV. I just assumed that the box came with the throttle body boots already sealed in. It appears that I have to remove the boots and install in the new box. There is a goldish/brown sealant or adhesive where the boot connects to the box.If anybody knows what this is or what a suitable replacement is, I would appreciate that info. Any other tips with regards to removing/replacing these boots would also be helpful. thanks

Get second opinion but I would not add any sealant this makes oil change easier since you can remove airbox by just pulling it off those boots.Not positive on this but I believe I have seen this done like this and thought it saved some time.

I didn't reseal mine and don't think it is necessary. There is no way I would try to get the boot's/horn's back in the air box VS removing the box to do an oil change! Very simple and easy to loosen up the four clamp's with a long Allan or what i use is a screwdriver/multibit with Allan tip's, two minute job just make sure the boot's are on good on all four cyl when reinstalling. If they want to fold over you could take your finger and wipe a bit of WD 40 on them. Very easy after you do a couple but I have put the boot's in when doing an air box swap and it isn't that easy not to mention doing four at once. My opinion any way.

I'll try to be more clear.I am not referring to putting the boots on the throttle body, I am talking about the factory sealant around the boot and the opening of the air box. The boots need to be removed from the box and their is a sealant/adhesive between the boot and the air box.

Investigated and do NOT pull the boots off.Sorry.As for the glue.Yea skip it.

I think the boots have to be removed when you dont ship your AB to Ulmer Racing. He sends you a modified box and you have to put the boots, sensor,foam pieces, and hoses from your old one on to the new one.I realize this is a question for Allan at Ulmers.....he's closed untill after X-mas and I just received the goodies today. Perhaps I need patience more tham anything. Thanks for all the responses.......

Canam, I understand your description. I also ordered ordered a new, modded airbox from Ulmer. You will have to remove the old boots from the existing lower half of the airbox. The brown sealant removes easily, should just peel off. I reinstalled the existing boots in the airbox lower half, and used Permatex black silicone glue/sealant to prevent contaminant entry into the throttle bodies. There is an alignment channel on each boot.

I had the boots in and out of my old warrior a few times, never sealed them. Personally I wouldn't bother but it sounds like you really want to, then use the permatex black silicone as mentioned. Just put a little in the groove and slide them on, wipe off the extra.... done.... forget about it... Merrry Christmas...

I used some car emblem adhesive as thats what was handy. I think almost any common auto adhesive, rtv, etc would be fine.

You do not have to glue the rubber boots back in. We have run many without glueing them back in. If you want to glue them back in simply use some general silicone, but only use it sparingly!

Use Yamabond 7 to seal the boots in the airbox.
