Hello,
OK, so it's after hours or I would have called Allen. I purchased an Ulmer Clutch Kit for my Apex, and I was wondering am I supposed to add "weight" to the weights he sent, as it comes w/ a bag of washers, or should I be able to drop them in as they are supposed to be "set up" for my sled. The reason I ask is my factory weight arm weighs in at 95.9grams and Ulmers weigh in at 71.5grams. I will be using a different primary spring, that comes in the kit, but just seems like a huge difference in weight per arm. The new arms have a washer in the tip, and the same style in the heel, along with a fatter weight in the heel opposite the skinny heal one. Just looking to button it up tonight, so throw me some responses please,
Thanks
Rick

The weights come as a kit so the tuning components come with incase you need further tuning. Allan likely has them set for you so you should be able to just put them in and be in the ball park.

Rick,
Trust Allen's set up. If you're new to clutching your sled you're in for a real surprise in what that kit will do for your sled. The reason for the drastic difference in the weight of the arms is due to the difference in the profile of the new arms. Place a new arm next to the stock arm and you'll see the difference. The profile of the new arm is more aggressive and can be a lot lighter than the OEM arm due to the difference in the profile of the arm.
Go ahead and button it up and hang on tight.

OK, thanks for the replies. I have messed with clutching on my '02 Viper, but again it just seemed like such a drastic weight difference. And yes, they are definitely a different shape, so I'll be plugging them in and waiting to see what happens.

What year is your apex? and is it stock?.....95 grams seems to be alot bigger than I thought was stock?
Just woundering. And yes go with Allens set-up.

I just installed mine the weights were already loaded like yours. I also did the airbox mod and the PCV hopefully get out and riding on sunday. What is yours engaging at if you've finished putting it back together?

It's a '13 XTX and those were the stock weights.

I had already done the PCV and airlid last season, but I haven't put it back together just yet with the new clutch, as it was 51F out today, and no real drive to button 'er up. Got too many X-mas obligations this weekend!!

After your ride on Sunday, if you wouldn't mind replying how you liked it, engagement rpms and what you noticed. I'm studded w/ 171 1.34"
Thanks
Rick

Ya will do I've got a 2011SE with 153-1.325" GD's up the middle. I'm just going to load the sleds now getting pumped for my first ride of the season

We had a bit of a ice storm here in Ontario delayed me a day. Anyway so I got out for my first ride of the season and I must say the sled feels very responsive. Coming out of tight corners and laying into the happy flapper produces instant power it seems to respond faster then last year all through the power band. That said I only put 500 miles on the stock sled last year at the end of the season and it was great then as well. But I do think it gets up and goes better but I'll need to test it more before I can say for sure.

So it engages at around 4100+-100 I think that might be a bit higher then some have reported but it was smooth none the less. I didn't get a chance to do a long high speed test so I can't tell you how fast it was on the top end. But I did hit 100mph on the dream meter pretty fast on a straight part of trail rpms were at 10600. I was riding trails that had a lot of loose snow on them. Not sure if that helps much but that's all I got from my 180 mile trip today.

Good to hear. Can't wait till I get snow again. Yes, the sled really opens up above the 800 mile mark. I was pulling a solid 10,800 rpms with the more miles on. Although towards the end of my sledding season, just shy of 3400 miles, I noticed that it was having trouble getting to the top, turned out to be a broken power valve cable.
