I am thinking of buying an ultra plate for my Attak GT. I would like to know how they are installed? And, What happens when I need an oil change are they easy to come off?I would like to have some protection under the sled. Thanks in advance

I'll go out on a limb here and assume that "ultra plate" is some sort of magazine talk for "skid plate". If that is correct, then you just remove it for an oil change. To install, 4 rivnuts into the belly, then 6 bolts.

I have an 07 Attak. I performed an oil change last spring. I have the ultra plate on my machine and it was very easy to remove when changing the oil. Just a few screws. Good luck.

Tuner, I have i job to finish tonight but I just installed a skid plate two days ago and I should post a topic hopefully tomorrow, on what I believe is the best way to tackle it.

- None, looking now!
Make sure you glue in them rivnuts, or something. They can come out on you. You also wanna watch the plate. What happens is one rivnut will come out on you, then snow and ice will build up in between the plate and the inspection plate. Next thing you know another rivnut is coming out on you.

If I remember correctly, there is a thread somewhere talking something like this. Do a search and will find it.

i wouldn't own a machine without a skid plate, it's worth the hassle of removing the 6 bolt's once a year, for peace of mind on the trail's

If I had to doitall over again, I would drill and tap holes for the supplied phillips head bolts ( 4 on bulkhead). The riv-nuts absolutlely suck and dont work at all, you can try, but might have mixed results.
First step is to drill holes in your new machine (scary thought), but its only drilling out some rivets. ou wont find the metric bit they suggest, so use the imperial equivalent, Im not sure what it is off hand.
Remove the acess panel and with a handy magnet, remove the shavings and rivet heads from inside the bulkhead (if you want, not needed)
Install your riv-nuts, then the plate.
As for changing the oil, I just undo the 4 bolts holding the plate on from the bulkhead, then hold the plate down with a weight so that you can get to the access panel for changing the oil. Its quicker than taking the other two bolts out, and this was a real pain for me to get on to begin with, my plate was warped and holes were of a little.
