At the beginning on this season, I replaced my track on my 2005 RX-1 with a new rip saw Ice Ripper Track. After 1055 miles (mostly in the Tug Hill area) I have the following observations. All 256 mini studs are still there. Seems to hold good on icy corners and when stopping on ice. When racing someone on glare ice, or real hard packed snow, it does not dig in and grab as well as regular studs do, however I ecpected as much. I bought this track mainly for the the added safty on icy corners and stopping, not for drag racing. Now I do not have to worry about putting another stud through this ultra thin heat exchangers Yamaha uses again. That alone is worth the peace of mind the New Ice Ripper track gives me. I will post another review after the season, at which time I should have about 4,000 miles on the track.

BBW, I thought there were 288 studs in that track. Great report though. I did the same with mine and hope for the same results.

Thank's for the update there are alot of people wondering how they hold up including myself.

Your report is right on the $$, in comparison to an article I read recently. Compared no studs, Ice Ripper and Std Studding. Icy condition testing of take-off traction, cornering and stopping were consistently, no studs (dangerous), pre-studded in lug (improved - good for safety), normal studding (better for overall safety and aggressive riding)....Good to see the track holds up. ;)!

I purchased it online through TracksUSA. I think the price was about $440. However when you take into account it usually costs about $200 to stud a track, it can actually be cheaper to buy the iceripper. If you bought a new sled with a 1 1/4" ripsaw, you could take the track off when it is still new and sell it on Ebay foir about $300-$320. Take into account the $200 dollars you don't have to spend on studding it, which would bring the price of your ripsaw up to about $520. I think I paid $460 with shipping, so the Ice Ripper is actually about $50-$60 cheaper after you sell the original track on Ebay, if you do the instillation yourself.

BBW,

Could you please post the part no. of the track you bought? Does this track have every window punched in it? Is it fully clipped or clipped every third window? I'm considering this track for my 03 RX-1 shorty. Thanks!!

RX1Jim, The part # is 9993H, I bought it through tracksUSA.com. There telephone # is 320-382-6128. It has every window punched and every third window clipped.

Just my 2 cents. I had the 1" Ice Claw on a Vector last year and removed it after a few hundred miles. It is better than a non studded track but not even close to a track with only 96 standard studs. I like the standard studs regardless of cost or effort to install. I tried it to hopefully reduce track howl.

ax99, Cost of studs or effort to install them was not my concern. It was putting a stud through my heat exchanger, when a stud starts to rip through, which happened on my 2004 Warrior, and almost happened on my 2005 RX-1.
