After reading some posts, someone mentioned the punch marks next to vin. I checked mine today (after thawing it out) and I don't see any (07 Phazer std. bought in 08). I called a dealer here in town and he didn't say much about the punch marks. He ran the vin and came up with this:
Fan was installed
Idler bolt ..updated?
He didn't say anything about the steering or air box. He did mention a lower ball joint update needs to be done. I'm dropping it off Monday and have them go thru it. He seemed ok with getting the service, even though I didn't buy it there. I'm going to try and have them change the "dreaded link" while it's there. Anything else come to mind?

This is good information on the Phazer. HINT to the Moderators:

How about a sticky on all of the factory recalls and/or updates for all three years and models. That way all owners can quick read over what is REALLY out there!!!!!!!! Why? Some dealers just don't either care or have a clue.

After reading another post, I remember the dealer saying it needed the cold start fix. I'll see what they say on Monday. Does Yamaha send out update info or is it left to the dealer to notify the owner? Either way, I have gotten nothing detailing the recalls/updates/or whatever they call it now. Good idea rotax.

(please do correct me if I am wrong) The Yamaha factory mails out recall notices to all owners when a SAFETY issue is the problem with the sled. Other then that, it is their position that "fix - replace - upgrade" only when necessary. Personally I find that total horse crap.
Example: You trailer some 500+ miles, spend $$$ in gas and motel room, just to have your Phazer launch the balancer out the bottom case. You go home and then trailer the sled to your nearest dealer, only to have the service write-up guy tell you " Oh yeah, there is a service bulletin (I love those buzz words) on those Phazer motors and the balance shafts".

You want to write Yamaha and ask for your lost fuel and lodging back.

Speaking from experience are we??? Happened to me last year with my starter. Ended up cutting my ten day vacation to Baraga in the U.P. short by five days last year because of the starter failing. Then none were available till the end of the season. Good thing I know how to take things into my own hands and reindex starters and reassemble them so I could finish the season. They put a new one in during this summer, I asked for my old one back that I had repaired myself (which they have to give back by law), and now I have a good spare I keep in my trailer. YES insurance covers $150 trip reimbursement if you have receipts. Too bad last year that didn't even cover the fuel in my truck getting back home, but better than nothing.

The steering and Balljoint bolt were both safety recalls and all owners were supposed to be notified by mail. Those are the ones the punch marks stand for. While the sleds are at the shop getting those done there is a bunch of other issues they fix at same time.Mostly loose bolts.

I won't need the sled till after the holidays, so the dealer will have plently of time to go thru it and make sure everything is done. I've never used their service dept. so hopefully they treat me well.

Yes, from experience. If fact, a Yamaha Phazer. Back in the eighties with my first 1986 fan cooled Phazer. Bearing on the cooling fan seized. Cut the belt and rode it back to Hulbert carefully. Cut short a nice long snow trip.
