Now that I have been fighting my clutching porblems since day 1 and the yami dealers up here tell me to run stock set up and that there is nothing wrong with my sled. Here is what I have.

Right now Stock weights 8bu-10 with alum rivet in and out total grams 45.57 each. stock spring g-w-g 14.5 mm rollers in the secondary
stock spring pink and a 54-42 helix keep in mind I never really get over 4000 ft elevation. and gearing 20-40. rpms in powder 7500 and on hard pack 8000.

Hartman clutch set up. 89a10 weights right now they are empty weigh 47.5 grams w-w-w spring 14.5mm rollers secondary 54-42 helix and silver spring. 20-40 gears this is what I had last year after yamaha said my sled was set up right. rpms were about the same as above

Here is my opinion on the set up I should try. o-s-o spring the 89a10 weights 14.5mm rollers, secondary change helix to a 46-42 or straight cut I have a 46. silver spring. gears left a 20-40

any suggestions of where I should start. I really need to get the rpms up. I think hart man sent me to soft of a spring for the weight he sent me.

I am six feet tall and about 220lbs dressed.

I am about to tear into my sled this weekend putting hartman tunnel extension, timbersled drop brackets and single exhaust.
What is your opinion on running a straight aside from the noise?

It would appear that my exhaust pipe is a 2" pipe does anyone know?

Thank you very much. I wished I lived down there so I could get with someone who knows what they are doing. There is just not alot of help up here for yamaha riders :(

Your pipe is 1-3/4" I am in the middle of it right now. I ordered a Flo-Pro 3012ST 12" case glass pack. Should be delivered today and I am trying to decide if I cut off the clamp band from the stock set up or if I can cut slots in new and put fiber ring and clamp from old on the new set up to save a few inches in length and some welding. I will let you know. Hartman extension is on the way, have to find out what I am going to do about the heat exchanger. Hartman extension moves the mounting up 2" or so. :o|

I think that you should stick with your stock weights, use the silver spring @ 70, 14.5mm rollers, stock primary spring, then throw on the 46 straight helix and check your rpm's. If you are still low, drill the rivets in the 8bu's. I did that in my wife's vector and she is a totally different rider now.....the track spins much faster than the 40' helix so she doesn't get stuck and she finds that sidehilling and carving are easier. Good luck.

If all those different clutching combinations aren't making a difference……clutching may not be the issue……could be a completely separate fuel or mechanical issue……at your elevation with the current setup you have listed you should be pulling 8200-8500rpm under normal loads……depending on the secondary pre-load with that pink spring that is.

Yes I agree I talked to hartman today and he said there has to be something else wrong. The thing that gets me is it seems to run good but I dont know anyone that has one that I can ride. I talked to the yamaha dealer that I bought it from and I am going to fix the rails tonight and I am going to bring the sled up stock and have them look at it. Check the electronics and fuel and do a leak down test. They have a new tech that is suppose to be really good. Moved up from down in the states so we will see. I dont know If I can yamaha to cover this though becuase it is not under warranty anymore. Even though I have complained about alot.

So I am going to eliminate the mechanical and electrical issues and go from there.

Trxstr thank you for your info you have been very helpful the last year or so. and thank you to everyone else the more minds the better!!

I think I found my problem. I had the yamaha dealer put extrovert drivers on for me last year. SO I could run the track looser and get rid of the ratcheting. Well they put 9 tooth drivers on my sled. My track is bound so tight that it is no wonder I am having problems. I think that is why rails bent as well. So I get to go to yamaha tomorrow and make them change the drivers to 8 tooth drivers. My biggest problem is that I have moved a couple of times and I can not find my invoice. but they will have it on record.

Just thought I'd let you know

that's not why you rails bent mine did and there is other members that did but they didn't say anything.

Just thought I would update my clutch issues.
The dealer put the 8 tooth drivers on at no charge as they should have. The sled rocked today. I was only riding at about 100 feet above sea level though
Rpms hit up there about 9 with the 52-46 helix the thing just stands on end and it has never done that and in the powder 6 plus feet of powder i was well over 40 mph track speed.
The dealer wanted me to put the yami belt on so i let them. As usual for this sled it sucked and slipped alot. I took it off and put the ultimax 3 back on. I am just going to run the ultimax 3 belt.

I need to put the silver secondary spring in and I am going to try hartmans primary setup and see what happens but I think the weights he sent me will be too much thank you for the help!!!

Yeah, 9 tooth drivers would throw your gearing a bit out of wack and if it tightened your track too much would cause a bunch of hp loss. Glad you figured it out. Go with the silver spring, you'll like it. After doing some climbs feel your clutches and see if they are cool, warm, or hot.

an update of the clutch saga!! I ran the stock primary clutch one time and the sled pulled hard.

I am the hartman setp and the sled did not pull nearly as hard. His set up goes to a heavier weight 89a10 and a www spring. I was also under reving although I was still pulling 45-50mph in the powder. Now this powder had 0 base to it so I worked the sled hard. No belt slippage in the pri or the second but clutch was piping hot.

I think I am going to back to stock setup
