The carbed Vector has always been a cold blooded machine, but recently mine seems even more so.
After the warm-up light goes out my sled will sputter like the ignition is cutting out, almost like TORS is acting up. I will sometimes try to give it some more throttle and it will fall on its face like I hit the kill switch but it won't stall. It feels and acts like there is either ignition problem or fuel delivery problem.
But then after a couple of minutes, after the machine fully warms up, it is fine and will not do this again while the machine is warm.
The thing is, it doesn't do this every time. It seems like half of the time I start it in the morning it acts up. Could I perhaps be fouling out a plug?
Thanks!
Mike

My 11 RS venture did that to me as well and only did it when it was very cold. Once it warmed up and ran for another five minutes worked flawlessly. I think it is just the nature of the beast it needs to be warmer before taking off. The cold light goes out to soon in my opinion I let her warm up more now.

I always let my 2011 RS Venture warm up several minutes after light goes out.....if not it hesitates and/or stalls.

Maybe that's what I need to do, just seems funny that sometimes it acts that way and other times it doesn't.

After the light goes out, let it idle to warm up still more. Mine has always been a bit cold blooded, even after a lunch stop while everyone else was ready to go. I catch up quickly.

Mine seems the same way Metallicat, especially after it hasn't been ridden in a while (a few weeks)
If I am riding it regularily it usually never gives me a problem, only when some time between rides has passed?

Same here, let it warm up a bit more after the light goes off,I think it's a fuel delivery problem, pilot jets need cleaning,I had done it on my old warrior and it had cleared the problem

Good to know guys, thanks for posting. My '06 Venture does this too. Rather than frustrating myself trying to nurse it over the "hump", I'll just fire it up a little earlier and wait!

Mine does that to, I was use to my FI nytro before I got the carbed vector when the light goes out you were good to go. I leave mine a minute or two after and I am good to go. Only from a cold start of course. I recall catman saying that the pilot jet is a little small on the vector and it is starving for fuel and that is why it wants to idle high as well
Hello, everyone. I have been having a similar problem with my 05' Vector. Except my issue goes a little further. After its all warmed up and running fine and I get on the straight aways, running at about 8000 rpm for a while, the motor will start to gag like it is loading up or something. Twice when it started gaging and I let off the throttle it completely shut down. No sputtering or nothing, just like hitting the kill switch. Each time it has done this it has only acted up once during the trips and then for the rest of the day no problems. I don't get it. Seems like it gets to much fuel for some reason and loads up. Other times when it does this, I drive slow around 40-55 mph and it will clear up and be fine again. I have had the carbs checked and cleaned by two proffessional mechanics this month and nothing has changed. The mechanics found nothing out of the ordinary. I used to be able to start the sled at full choke, wait about 5 seconds and take the choke off and it would warm up nicely. Now if I do that or leave the choke on longer it loads up and almost dies. When I take the choke off it barely idles during warm up. Don't know if it could be related or not. Any help would be appreciated!

Mike,
Mine acts the same way. As the miles have added up (now over 13K miles) the sled has gotten more touchy when cold RIGHT AFTER the light goes out. When the light goes out and I push the choke to full OFF the engine wants to die sometimes...and does. It restarts just fine with the choke OFF. Carbs are clean etc etc etc.

Exactly what mine does.

A friend had something very similar happen, you might want to check the valve adjustment to start with.

OK guys here is my trick........... Start on full choke. After starting feather the choke lever back down until it idles at 2,500 rpm smoothly. Let it stay there until light goes off.. Continue warming at 2,500 rpm's for a few minutes... Now head on out for about a 1/4 of a mile then back off the choke to zero.......... Mine "NEVER" stumbles at all when i do this.......... MM.
