How is the Vector, I know on my rx1 I really needed a ski upgrade, how is the Vector, do I need to put Simmons on it to for the lady. Also is there an upgrade for the clutch rattle I keep hearing about and if so anyone have part numbers. Thanks bought a new vector for the lady friend and want it to be as good if not better than the rx which I love.

Hi Neighbor,
Even though my new simmons skis were right there, I decided to leave the stockers on just to see how good they were. Then mid week it rained so I did not want to scuff up the simmons so I left em on. From the get go I put on the bergstrom tripple 6" carbides (3 carbides on one bar) and they were surprisingly good. A little darting but not bad. Cornering was very good unless I hammered the throttle too early, then I had some ski lift. The slow squeeze on the throttle works best. I'll have my simmons on next week, but the stockers were OK. This could be because of the bergstroms like I said.

Hey Tork thanks for the info, picking up the sled from Bob Rec Plus on Thur. did he do the update on the clutch for you if so should I have him do it now or ride it a few hundred miles first. I will probably just order some skis and stick them on, I am totally impressed with the difference the skis made on the rx1. I want the sled to ride good from the get go for the old lady. lol ya she's older than me so I can say this without getting into to much trouble. But hey I thought I was very nice today buying her a new sled for her 44th.

I admittedly have very few miles on my RX-1, but in that short time I don't understand what the issue is with the stock skis? What is it about them that has you guys all changing them? The only negative I have seen with Yamaha Skis is that they have always had a very deep keel, so following a Yamaha sucks. You get sucked right into their tracks much worse than other brands. Other than that I haven't noticed anything particularly bad about them.

They dart, they shimmy, they wobble, they don't bite in the corners, they don't track straight, they don't float at all, nough said, with the simmons I can ride if I wanted to with one hand at 70mph down a grooved trail and there is no shimmy shake darting whatever, as far as corners go less ski lift and no push like the stockers, in powder or water crossing I skim across not plow through. I ride pretty aggressively (but on my side) and want the best handling sled I can get, the simmons skis made a huge huge difference, I have not tried the other skis out there so I don't know how they are but the simmons I can say make a total change in the way the sled feels. When you go down a groomed trail next time sit back at 50 mph and look at your hands and feel your shoulders do you hands move back and forth at all, if so it is wearing on you by the end of the day on a 250 mile ride, now try a sled with the simmons with the skis set straight and your hands don't move you just point and go, to be honest with ya this is why I am buying my girlfriend a new sled, I rode her 99 sx700 a week ago (when a buddies rev 800ho puked a crank) and with the stock skis I immediatly noticed how much more I had to work, this is the same feeling I had on my viper, I always switched with my buddy on his polski 800 and his rev800 and said how it was a point and shoot type of ride no darting at all, you just don't feel the trail like you do on a stock Yamaha. So now I had a test bed if you will, my memories of my rx1, viper, srx, vmax always wondering why my sleds never rode like his, well now it does and I love it, less wear on me and a much better feel of control on the trails. After last week riding hers I thought about putting them on hers and said no her headlight sucks compared to new sleds she works more to keep up with us just due to the nature of the newer sleds and the way they handle and especially since I put on the skis. I have tried to describe what it is like and I'm sure I didn't do a ggod job of it but if you get a chance ride a yami with different skis and see if you don't agree it rides totally different than the stocker. wow I typed a damn book on this subject.
