I asked on the 2-smoke side and got very little help, my 9 year old daughter is growing too big to be in front , so I need a inexpesive second sled ( 2up ) . Was thinking of a solo ride converted to 2up , I was told it's a bad idea on 121 . I never paid attention to the touring sleds as I never thought I would own one , oops !! Anything in particullar to watch out for , or look for ? Any help or info would be great , not too worried about getting another brand as my freinds are all mixed up and ride the other three brands ! Also I'm thinking a 600 or bigger to get better mpg's might be a good idea , thoughts ? Thax Doc

The demand for 2 up sleds is very good, so if you have the $, any 4 stroke venture, new or used is a great value.
I personally know of 2 guys in your exact situation with kids getting too big for daddys lap. One dad put a jump seat on his 121 rev, but the kid was understandable scared of riding on it without a backrest, etc.
We did have a 99' 2 stroke yammie with a 2 up seat when our son was in the between years. It worked well.
The seat sold fast on here when we were done with it, so if you find one snatch it up.

Doc,

Nothing seems to be inexpensive these days.

The new RS Venture GT is a superbly designed sled.

* Yamaha has incorporated many features that touring types in the past have been asking for.

* The sled should a great seller, due to it's "multi purpose" solo riding and two-up qualities.

* The adjustable back-rest and passenger handgrips are two nice features that can be fitted nicely for a youngster.

* The passenger hand grips are also covered by a rubber material similar to the riders bar grips which should transfer heat better than the old foam grips on the RS Venture.

* The sled also has a larger stator which leads me to this conclusion.

* These features also tells me that Yamaha's new detuned 126-128 HP, FI Engine should provide lower vibration component throughout the chassis, meaning the rider and passenger will feel less vibration in the hand grips.

* The sled has more than enough power as well.

* The sled built on the DB II chassis and putting GYTR Piggyback clickers on the sled provides a wide range of adjustability, meaning you can set the sled up to feel and ride the trails like an Apex, or provide more (shock and rebound travel) in order to provide a comfortable ride for two-up touring.

* All good for users.

IMO moving forward into this new model is the way to go.

A test ride is also something to consider.

Here is some more background information.

Bottom line: Two sleds in one package!

Hope this helps!!! ;)!

Thanks for the info so far , I am thinking $2-3000 might be all I'll be able to come up with . Putting a little away each week adds up in a hurry , so if I can step up the amount a little more and get some overtime in ..... maybe a 4-stroke , it would be great , not sure I'll get there though . Then the trick is too find one !

I think that the RS Venture is more than 2 sleds in one from my experience on my 08. As a tourer the sled is unrivaled in my opinion but it has so much more. I have found that a lot of my buddies have been more than surprised when I pull up alongside them on a pond or lake, wave and pull away from them. Obviously I am not doing this with anything modded up but older 600s & 700s & even some older 800s have ended up watching my two chrome exhaust tips pull away from them. And when the snow get deep or the terrain turns steep I have also been able to get some of the boys to ask 'How did you get that beast through that?' or 'How did you get to the top of this?'. I've got to say that I am quite pleased with how the sled floats in deeper powder & can plow through big drifts. When I put my Rox riser on this really helped in the steeper styff. It made it much easier to stand & transition to the point where I feel that this big, heavy sled can tackle most everything in my neck of the woods when it comes to steeper inclines. Now I am not riding the mountains here but we do have some challenging steep stuff. Overall I love my Venture and would recommend one in a heartbeat to anyone looking for a comfortable, versatile machine.

I have a 2001 Venture 700 with 20000km's on it. Great sled. Look for cracks in rear skid though. I had to do a bunch of welding a couple of years ago. I also have a 2007 Venture. It's a lemon, and Yamaha does nothing for you to help. They claim the engines are bullet proof, mine certainly isn't. 2 months for the parts to come in. They are just starting to put it back together now. I would buy an E-Tech from Ski-doo for my next sled. It will get better mileage, by far.

Well if your only looking to spend 2 or 3ks then I would think that a 4stroke RS Venture would be out of the question. They started to make the 4stroke RS Venture in 2005 and the value of those 05 machines go for a min. of 4K and up from my experience of shopping ebay. I'm not to say you won't find one under 4K but if you do and it is in decent shape buy it! I have an 05 and it has been a great machine. Save up some more of those hard working :exc: $$$ and get you an 05 thats 4stroke. Good Luck!!

I agree with you on the prices of the four strokes , I was thinking 2-3 for a 2-stroke .... with hard work ..... maybe enough more for a newer Yami !! Then today , a buddy called with some news of a customer of his who would like to get rid of a Yamaha Venture , 600 3cyl. , silver in color , low milage and babied , knowing how this guy drives everything else he owns . They just don't ride much anymore and with gas prices going up , they thought it was time to move the sled to someone else . That's all I know at this time , but he told them I'm interested and to give me first shot at it . So we'll see what happens when they get back in town in a couple of weeks .
