My wife has an 05 RX-1 and last season on the trails in Quebec she had a problem with her throttle thumb, hand and arm going numb. We switched sleds and I noticed it and 2 of our friends had it happen to them too. Could vibration be the cause?

For sure! Have the dealer look for a bad driveshaft bearing. The problem may be hard to find but there is a problem. ===SRXSRULE===

The sled only has about 600 miles, what wouuld cause this problem so quickly?

I get numb at times on long trips regardless of what I ride. Sometimes just lowering the handlebars can help a bit. Having a setup that gives easy handling sometimes loosens up the grip a little and reduces numbness. Doolies on the stock skis, ski shims or aftermarket skis can help ease the hand grip on the handlebars.
If there is a noticable vibration, maybe check the obvious first.
- could be a bearing like mentioned above, but at 600 miles I would speculate something else.
- could be an idler wheel missing rubber?
- sometimes studs will cause a vibration when lined up with idler wheels or stud not tightened flush to track.
- could be belt with a wear/burn mark on it?

Having you tried simply moving the position of the throttle on the handlebars? Sometimes the factory setting is a bit high. There is a screw on the back of the throttle mechanism that you can loosen and change the position of the throttle. Lower it slightly so that the throttle is off your thumb. Did this on my Viper and it cured the numb throttle syndrome.

Like Dano said just swap out the belt. Before you do anything or take it some place. I had this happen on my SXR and I thought I had a bent drive shaft or something. I could not see the "dent" in the belt but it was the cause. I never would have figured it was my belt but 696 pointed that one out. Doug

Some of the 05 RX-1's around here had defective chaincase bearings from the factory (I know of 1 and the owner was told there were others).
I believed he mentioned a vibration from day 1 but didn't have it repaired until they completely failed around 1000 kms.
I've had belts do that on other sleds, including my wife's Venture 700 (running the same belt as the RX-1).
