I installed new hy-fax and fourth wheel kit on my 2006 attak. The drivers kept racheting so I tightened my track until it stopped. I noticed some hy-fax wear in the first 100 miles so I loosened my track, seemed to help. Now I feel some noticeable vibration at high speeds with a light clunk sound at deceleration at about 15 or 20 mph. Sounds like it is near the drivers but there doesn't seem to be much play in them. I would really aprreciate some ideas or maybe similar experiences. Thanks.-06 attak with 184 single and double woodys 1.325 gold diggers.

Ive noticed more vibration in my sled if I run the track loose.
The hyfax always wear pretty quick when first replaced then last a long time. I have 2000mi on my slides and there is still plenty of life left in them.
Also a loose track will cost you top end speed , especially if it is loose enough to rub the tunnel at hi speed.

I was always told if you ran the track loose you pick up more speed. I was told that about radar runs because there is less drag. Was I given bad info.?

Depending on youre set up type of track and suspension a looser track can help top speed.
but with stock track and suspension a tight track is faster.

Thanks for the help. My track is dialed in now with the 4th wheel kit. I hear the noise when I let off the gas when the speed drops to around 25mph. It sounds like the noise is in around the secondary or may be the chain case. I checked the chain tension and that is ok. I think I gained a little vibration from the double backers. This noise is a distinct jingle or rattle that sounds like it has the rhythm of the track rpm. I do not see signs of the track hitting the tunnel. Chain case oil needs to be changed, but the level is ok. I appreciate the help.

Just for kicks...
Check the bearing behind the driven.

Mine started out the same way.

how do you check that bearing? i pulled my secondary and the c-clip for the bearing and have no idea how to get the bearing out or re-grease it?
thanks,
dave

This site is killah. Thanks for the input guys. I was double checking my secondary and on the blind side of the belt there was about a six inch piece of the top cogs missing. This was causing the secondary to slap back and forth. What a relief. The belt only had about 500 miles on it. 8dn-01 I wonder if yamaha will come good for it?lol Thanks for all the help. The advice form this site has helped me dial in my attak to being one of the best if not the best trail/ lake racer you can buy.

The most likely cause of your trouble would be the drive axle bearing on the speedo side. Take driven off and this will allow easy access to the bearing. Lossen track and then loosen or take out completly the little torx head screws holding the bearing collar. After these are out, then the speedo cap can be taken off and the bearing with a little prey should pop out. You will probably find the bearing is toast, and thus vibration. To grease the bearing behind the driven clutch, take the snap ring out and carefully remove the bearing seal. Use a needle grease fitting with your gun, and inject a small am't of grease in each bearing cage space. Replace seal carefully and wipe excess gease away. Replace snap ring and you will be good to go....Hope this helps, and if it dosen't take the vibs away, start looking at some other part of the suspension for the problem.....Don

WOW, YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!! I FIGURED OUT THE RATTLING, THE BELT. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ABOUT THE VIBRATION, THE FIRST THING THAT I AM GOING TO DO AFTER THE SEASON IS OVER IS TAKE CARE OF THAT SPEEDO BEARING. JUST THIS SITE ALONE MAKES OWNING A YAMAHA VIABLE, LET ALONE HOW BAD #*$&@ OF A PRODUCT THEY MAKE.
