I was wondering what you guy's think about the '04 RX-1's. I am thinking of trading in my bad #*$&@ '02 AC ZR 800 efi cce for a slightly used '04 RX-1 (90miles). The guy want's $7,500 (US) for it. I think it's a good deal, what do you think? Anyways, how's the sus. on these RX-1's? I own an AC like I said, so I'm used to the nice sus., this is the only real reason I'm hesitating on buying the RX-1. Because I know Yamaha's are known for there back breaking sus. I have herd lots about their reliability, which is really good. So what I really want is, an all out review of this sled from the owners of an '04 RX-1.
Thanks guy's

i have a mountain with a different suspension. Its not as soft as the regular RX1's, but man over the 1 foot moguls my back feels like its ready to break. I do like it though. about 1300 miles on both sleds and they havent let me down yet. For mountain riding it is great, but with the short track just stay on the trail. I do like it though

I love my sled now, but it has taken some mods to get it the way I want it! As you mentioned about the suspension, I agree that Yamaha's have always been sub-par in the comfort department. But I have ridden Yamahas all my life and I love them because of their quality and fit n' finish, which I believe they are way ahead of the pack in. But as you can see below, I installed a ZR skid this year which I absolutely love and it changed all the handling characteristics of the sled...making it much more fun and comfortable!
Heres what I think you will not like about the RX-1 at first: 1. The rear suspension you will most likely hate and want to change. 2. The handling is much different than a ZR, so it will take some time to learn...dont give up!! 3. It might feel heavy if you are ditch bangin, but again, you just need to learn to ride it differently!
I say go for it...partially because I'm not exactly a big fan of Cats and would love to help convert another comrade.... and the other part is that I ride one of these beasts and I like it more the more I ride it!
As far as that price goes, it sounds a little steep to me! You could get one with fairly low miles, and possibly some mods on it, for at least a grand less...check around!!

Hope this helps!! :yam:
Focker

Forget the 04 and go with a 05, the 04 if you want to sell or trade next year will depreciate at least $3,000. The stock suspension is crap.

Great sled ... to much money

For that kinda money go new. Better trade and warranty

Spend a little more and get an 05. Great suspension, full warranty and better resale.

I paid $8,999 + taxes (Canadian) for my 04 RX1 in November 2004!!!

That was a decent deal! up to 740 kms now, just did an oil/filter change, no complaint even if I've seen better suspension!!! (I had a 02 ZR800EFI)
;)!

You guys are buying your sled´s way too cheap. I bought my ´04 warrior in february ´04 for $ 12500 canadian and the shipment from Canada to Greenland cost $ 1000 canadian and to get it in to Greenland I had to pay costum taxes approx. $ 4900 canadian and that is a total of $$$ 1 8 4 0 0 canadian :o| :o| :o| :o| :o| :o| #$%&* #$%&* makes me wanna cry
So what are you guys paying for your sled including taxes?????

Ernie

Here is a new o5 for $8199 frt and prep incl

The 05 has monoshock (the best in the industry), 30 lbs of weight reduction with real exotic materials including magnesium and titanium, a better seat.
Plus Id bet you could get better financing on the 05.
Hands down get the new one unless you could get the 04 for $6000-6500

I might as well chime in and say Even Though the 04 is not even broken in yet it is last years and for a little more you can have the current version with the MONO! I agree with Tork 6K leaves $ for updates ;)! I saw a 05 flat black one on e-bay For just over 8K looked legit but dont give them anything until your sitting on it. Better yet get a 03 and get a turbo.:flag:

Thanks guy's, ya I guess for around $8200 for an '05 I mine as well do that. Were your Yamaha dealers giving like a thousand off the MSRP of your sleds?
