Where is the vin# located other than on the tunnel on my 08 Nytro? It has an aftermarket tunnel and they did not transfer the vin to it. Do I need to disassemble anything to find the vin on the motor? I am going to file for a lost title but need the vin.

I recently purchased an 08 Nytro and did not get the title with it. The people I got it from never put it in their name (pretty common in Mt) since it has permanent registration. I would like to get it in my name and insured but I need the Vin#. It has an aftermarket tunnel so I need the vin from the motor. I have looked at other threads related to this but no one ever says where to find the vin at on the motor. Any help with its location would be appreciated.

Do you know if I have to disassemble much to find it? It has the mcx 270 kit so its a little crowded in there and I don't want to mess with anything I don't have to when looking for it. I have never worked on one of these and I would prefer to have someone knowledgeable there when I dig in.

Here you go. I had to look it up in a PDF manual. The dealer should be able to find the Vin # by using the serial number, if they say no then they are lying.

Thanks for the help! Do you have a link to that PDF manual?

From what I know, the VIN# on the sled does not match the serial# on the engine. I found this out with my Viper. I have my Nytro apart right now and can check, but the only number I see is the Serial number on the engine which is on the right side (side opposite of the clutch) on the cylinder.
I will check tonight to see. Maybe since the Viper was assembled at CAT they probably didn't use the same number. You have me wondering now.

Im in the same boat as you are, but of north of thr border in Alberta. The serial # of the engine is just like the picture nytromisfit posted. Its behind the oil tank. Right down the & give to the dealer. Its should look like either 8CR or 8CH, then a bunch of #'s. Unless the block has been changed, they dont have serial #'s.

I found it. Mine starts with 8HA... Should it have started with 8CR or 8CH for it to be an original motor?

I posted a different thread on here and was told where to find the serial #. I was told the dealership can look up the vin using it. And that there is also somewhere online that it can be referenced with
I was giving you examples was all. Its likely the orginal engine. Now get your local dealer to call Yamaha USA. Image yamaha has a few different serial # prefixs for their engines.

Do you know if there is any difference in the motors that have different beginning letters in the serial #?
