viper diet....

Here we go..... I finally got to see inside the Viper chain case..... A few things!
1. no chain case drain bolt? WTF
2. simple things are very complicated on this thing, adjusting chain, changing oil, or gears!

To the good!
1. Very simple chain case and well laid out. the new adjuster looks awesome and might be the most Yamaha thing on this machine.

since my viper is going on a slow diet here is how much you will loose with deleting reveres.

very very simple to do change the bottom snap ring over one slot and bolt it all back together. replace the servo motor hole with a plug and BOOM no reveres and -8 pounds or moving mass
Late next week I am hoping to get my 38" a-arm kit and will post a pict or two of that..... kinda nervous about shortening my fox evol r shocks from 18.5 down to 17.5 but we will see how it all comes together.

;)! Nice ;)! Good info

The snap rings on the ends of the axle shaft are what hold it in alignment with in the tunnel. One outside the brake rotor and the other holding the gear on. I found that is much easier to re-install the last snap ring if you use a ratchet strap to pull the running boards in slightly.

Removing the tunnel protectors saves 2lbs 4oz
Swapping out the tunnel extension adds 6oz and the longer bumper adds another 3oz.
The stock 141" skid is 41lbs and a 153" skid with 2 idler wheels removed and ice scratchers added is 43lbs
Stock 1.6 Cobra track is pretty light, only 40 pounds, while a 153" 2.6" Powerclaw is 57lbs! Actually 57lbs is about par for most mountain tracks and just looking at it screams traction!LOL

The list so far
38" front end and sway bar, brackets, misc removal -3lbs 10oz
removed tunnel protectors -2lbs 4oz
Shorai Lithium battery -11lbs
153" tunnel ext +6oz
153 bumper +3oz
153 skid +2lbs
153 Powerclaw track +17lbs

Parts coming
BDX rear skid arm kit -4lbs 8oz
drilled lightweight brake rotor -1lb 8oz
I'm probably not going to get to carried any with the weight loss yet, mainly looking to off-set the added weight of the longer track!

You may have to go to shorter shocks though, the 38" front ends use 17.1" long shocks. At first I was going to shim my 18.6" stockers but then realized that the compressed distance would probably be still to long, so I ended up going with the float 3s for the M chassis.

Wow its that easy! I never had reverse on a sled. This is my first. Believe it or not I have yet to use it. I keep forgetting I have it.Hmm.

I have yet to use it either , normally in a drive out trailer or on a sled deck were you just have to wiggle it a bit and it comes right off

A little painting and clutch work done
added a white secondary spring and 39 degree helix
8bu weights with single rivet (will change after track swap and pipe intake ect)

I noticed u have a mountain grab bar on the handlebar did it come with it or did you add that, mine didnt come with one would like to put one on

thanks

The xtx came with a grab bar. For some reason I think that you have to order the whole handle bar set up to get this grab bar......?

Interesting.. most of the pro's say they are useless and never use them. I suppose it may make the Viper a little easier to lift from a roll over.

A few more parts starting to trickle in.... new small windshield installed (looks way better!!)

Now the most important part left is the PCV to control the fuel so I can get to stroking the engine!

BOOM I just got some parts in the mail!!!!! BIGGEST  shout out to TJ Patrick for getting me these carbon fiber parts!
I will post picts and weight as soon as I get off work!
LET me be very clear these parts are a work of ART, never have I seen carbon like this before!
Thank you TJ

HEAD LIGHT WEIGHT

tomorrow I will weight the stock headlight before I send it out for some mold work. I will also try to weight the stock hood parts I take off replacing them with carbon

All right it was a long night with the moto measure seven times cut once, only one shot at this! However it turned out great! Thinkin the red panels might have to become carbon here in the new year, once the seat changes over to black hmmmm wont be much red left.... but here is the hood all done and a weight on the headlight..... With these changes I save around 5-7 lbs not a lot but off the top of the machine.

PS: only one hole in my finger ! drill bit went through in one spot and right into the thumb, al least it is a perfect circle :o|
