Viper Timing Gear

Murdered141 please let us know what you find out. I'm not sure how this is happening is the gear moving on the stub shaft, if so how is the gear placed on the shaft is it a press fit. There's now way the shaft is jumping the spline fit.

Just got back from the garage, pulled primary clutch off and the 4 bolt's that hold the stub shaft in but cant seem to pull out the stub shaft, thinking about making a slide action hammer but need to confirm with dealer how it should come out.

Gave it a few love taps and it came out, but I only see 1 mark on the gear and nothing on either side if the shaft, could someone point me in the direction as what to look for.

Just answered my own question, I believe the mark on the gear is supposed to be lined up with the one shallow spline in the stub shaft and it is perfectly aligned so I don't believe the gear spun.

Yes I think your right i just don't know how that would ever move, blowing a belt or not but I guess anything is possible.

99% sure my throttle cable was too tight, which I never touched since new, the throttle cable adjuster was not loose!
Fires up idles perfect every time.

Does anyone have more info on this timing gear jumping, my Viper has started doing strange things all of a sudden during the starting process. It usually starts really good usually first try but lately it's talking 2 to 3 tries and it seems like if you give it a little throttle it starts easier. It doesn't matter if it is warm or cold every once in awhile it fires right up as soon as you hit the key. It has 2015 flash but like I said just started doing this the last couple of weeks. Oh and by the way I did adjust throttle cable left it on the lose side did not make a difference.

I was staring mine 2015 mod. one cold morning and it back fired now it starts very hard some times and it misses on on cylinder for a short time after it starts not always i have changed the plugs. Had a reflashed one 2016

Yes, as per the second post on this thread. Unless the interference fit is incorrect it is hard to imagine this moving on its own.
Makes me wonder if some were not right from brand new.

Just pulled the clutch and the cranks stub timing marks are where they should be I can't understand how they could move without busting things inside

Its just pressed on there. It can and has moved but VERY rare. Starting issue is probably new flash issue combined with something else. New flash is lean on start. If modded its worse. PCV takes care of it at least in my case.

I usually ride norther Maine and have only had very minor starting issues if any, most have been from a weak or old battery. Recently on two bagger trips to Canada I had noticed irregular behavior while starting and at idle. Most of the locations I fill up with fuel in Maine have 91 or 93 octane nonethenal fuel. Couldn’t find any 93 octane and nothing was labeled nonethenal in Canada. In the morning I noticed ice underneath my aluminum gas cap and thru out the day I noticed moisture. All five sleds in the group had the same ice and moisture. Some of the sleds had to be jump started every morning, -30f. Started using a very small amount of dry-gas once a day and it cleared up the moisture and any minor issues I was having. Sometimes it’s the simple things that can cause what appears to be a major issue.

I just found this same exact issue with 2015 Viper, sometimes wouldn't start or very hard to. Reluctor gear spun about 1/2-1 turn out. About 10 degrees off on timing.
