Ok, I have read many of the post on the Mono shock suspension, including the W arm breaking. I have had my sled for a couple years and have not put that many miles on mine. I have kept a eye out on the W arm but did not see any cracks. I have never been happy with the transfer on this skid. I had 192 studs and full transfer and still would not hook on a hole shot. this year I wanted to go with the 23 tooth gear so I took out 48 studs and put in chisels. Two weekends ago when racing I was doing 30 mph roll on starts on a snow covered gravel road. It was not great hard pack and snow was not very deep. When I went back to where I had started I could see where my track was spinning for probably75 ft. Remember, I was doing 30 mph when I started. Then last weekend I was racing a friend in his yard that was pretty frooze. I thought the chisels would bite pretty good, but it was like I was on ice with trail studs and no transfer. Tonight I put it on the hoist and found that the bottom vertical tubes that weld to the horizonal tube that bolts to the rails is broke. The right side is almost broke off. The left side is about 3/4 broke.
I was wondering, do you think that this is why it has not hooked latley? Seems like it has been getting worse.
Also when removing the W arm, do you pull the skid then the arm or do you just pull the arm?
Thanks Bruce

Given the info you provided, it is impossible for us to tell why you are not hooking up. There are too many variables. That is why no one is responding to you. You have to take specific notes on what you are encountering and what specific conditions you encountered them in. Then, you'll be able to figure things out.

Take out the skid to mess with the W-Arm. It is easier. Also you can give the rest of things under there a good inspection. It is not that big of a deal to take out and reinstall the skid.

Len, I will pull the skid and check it all over. Others have said that the bushing may also be shot. I will let every one know what I find. Hopefully this Sat. I will get a chance to work on it.

Good Luck! Get all the parts you think you may need ahead of the time, and you'll be out riding on Saturday afternoon!

You'll need the bushings and likely the updated stub shafts that the front bolt goes through. The 05's are aluminum and with no grease fittings they don't usually last very long. My W arm broke itself into many pieces last year...I had it welded to get me through the weekend but ended up buying the updated peice and keeping the welded one as a spare. That poor mono takes a beating...I love it but I end up pushing way too hard in the bumps because it rides so well.

The lack of transfer if VERY strange. I only run 96 studs and even on glare ice it'll yank the skis....on hardpack it'll stand on the back axle and catwalk like a dirtbike.

Thanks for the info. The skid has never transfered for beans, but it is worse now. Also not sure why people like the skid for trail, mine does not ride very good either. I might lean why after the removal of the skid.

Update: I pulled the skid yesterday. I had the new bushings and we are going north next weekend so I need to get busy. All the bushing were wore and so were the stub shafts. I did not order the stub shafts like DoktorC had suggested because I did not read his post untill after I ordered the bushing. I called my dad yesterday and he is going to make me some so I can get the skid back in. I took the rear shock to a local guy for a rebuild and revalve. His company is called Shocktheropy, he is well knowen and has built my shocks for year. He was very aware of the mono problems and said it would be a lot better. I had left out one thing about my skid and transfer. The RA cable was broke when I got the sled and I had never replaced it until the other day. I put in the new cable and adjusted it to soft because several had mentioned that would help with transfer. I believe they are right. Now we had a thaw and hard freeze so the snow is very hard but it seems to be better when in the plowed driveway. I will let every body know how it does after new weekend.

Hey guys, I recieved my front alum spacers yesterday and got the skid back in last night. Not a hard install at all, but I am working off a automotive hoist.
Transfer seems to be much better but still on my icy/hardpack drive it blows the track out. To early to tell about the ride but I also think that it will be a lot better. I am going north this weekend so time will tell. Thanks for all the help.
