Goto any hardware store or the home depot and buy 2 ( 1 for each side ) nylon washers and remove your hooks put 1 washer in each side and reinstall the hooks DONE!!!!
The nylon washer breaks the alum to steel contact that is robbing the heat from the grips...I rode this weekend in Old forge at 5 to 10 degrees with the Yamaha (windstopper gloves ) and had to turn the grip heaters down...So I stopped out of curiosity and removed the washers and tried ridding and my hands were cold with the heaters on high so I put the nylon washers back in and had to turn them down...So till Yamaha comes up with a fix you can use this .14 cent fix

Im sure it worked for you as you say.. but i am not totally convicned this is the problem..

There has been many who talked about removing the ends completely.. and they did say it helped.. But no one ever said it was the CURE for them..

Capt. are you talking about a solid washer, one that is just small enough to fit the inside dia. of the handlebar, can you show us a pic.. Thanks Pete ;)! ;)! ;)!

IMO they should be heated to the end of the hook. Hopefully Yamaha won't take a similar route to the fix...But for now this sounds good. I was going to try an o-ring to do the same thing because the plastic ends look cheap.

Just out of curiousity, I wonder how many Warrior/RX-1 owners liked the "cool" (low) windshield and put it on and now have cold hands?

Im going to try this one myself. I was also wondering about putting the expansion foam in the bar to insulate it somewhat anyone try that?

Got this from my Yamaha mechanic.

Spray foam inside the bars. Prevent heats loss.

My brother has a new ATTAK. His thumb and grip warmers work great!

Hope this helps. ;)!

I can just see it now... People riding by with gobs of spray foam stuck all over there gas tanks.

I've tried the nylon washers and I definately think they help. I found that the metal nub on the end of the hooks is still having contact with the metal inside the grip, acting as a heat sink. I just wish we could get some SNOW!!!

the spray foam thing is a old trick from a magazine it helped on my old mxz670 and also took some vibration out of the bars not that the apex vibrates.

Well it may not be the low windshield, but I took a standard sport-tech and choped the flairs off, plus my bars are up 3.5" and pivoted forward, with Powermadd hand guards.

In Canada, we swapped sleds for a bit and my hands started to get cold, while his got warm. So in the same sub-freezing temps, my hands still stay warmer on my RX-1 than they did while riding his Attak with the same hand guards and taller windshield.

There's another option, make sure you ride with an RX/RS sled in your group. You could also start wearing mittens, which sometimes I break-out in sub-zero temps on the RX-1. Or you could buy Nylon hooks to replace the stock ones. I agree, there is a definite problem with the product and I don't think you should have to do any of these trivial things, but if you're holding out for Yamaha, you just might end up with frost-bitten digits before this season's over.

Keep in mind the more you expose your hands to the cold, the harder it is to heat your hands back up. So Capt. Caveman's fix sounds pretty legit to me, and cheaper than buying mittens or hooks to boot. I'd put 2 washers on each side for good measure.

That expanding foam may work but will those hooks come off after that stuff sets up?
