I'm sick of buying Yamaha's with glass skids - Is there anything that holds up better, and for ALLOT longer? What you got?

OR Am I just too hard on my suspension and this request is simply not possible? :o|

how about AC sno pro or something like that - but then you will have an AC. are you breaking arms in the skid? my son's 06 nytro had a brokern arm at 5,000 which is pretty amazing considering how he rides - he could wreck a tank if he tried.

I've heard good things about the new ZX2. Might want to take a look at it maybe????
I've got a friend hat rides an F8 sno pro and was breaking parts left and right (rides stupid hard as I sit by and watch him do stupid stuff :) He just got a ZX2 and so far it held up better than his stock one did.

I would say a Poo skid would take care of most anything you'll likely throw at it, but I may be a little partial - though I understand the factory teams are using them?

I think the biggest step you could make in the right direction would be to just get away from the Yammi....

flame suit on......

Another broken Yamaha skid...Big surprise there.

Yes, I've been looking at the ZX2. If I could get any real money for the parts of the mono EC that are left, it could be a definite possibility??? I'm REAL curious to know how the damping is on the shocks out-of-the-box? I go 250 geared-up and my last Expert-X rattled itself apart too because the valving was WAY off.

You might be right ahicks.

Polaris Pro X skid w/walker evans. Mine takes way more abuse than the old pro action and hasn't failed yet. You know they take more abuse cause you can ride over moderate stutters at 70 mph and never let off of the gas, and stay in the seat like you are sitting still.. LOL Maxdlx

I have a '06 GT and in 6k mi I too have broken the front A arm several times, cracked both rails and delaminated many inside wheels. In my attempt to correct I had my EC shock revalved with a new spring by HyGear, and welded gussets in the A arm. The rails I just replaced but extended out to 136 and used the stock reinforcements for the Attack. I have also tried the RA shock from the RTX with Pioneers revalve, big boy spring, and reservoir. Both shock packages work and ride great and all but eliminate "harsh" bottoming except when you case a big one. I set my ride height to spec, keep the transfer somewhere on the min side, suck up the limiter strap 1, and run about 50 psi in the floats. With this sled it's all about balance from front to rear. All of this is just my opinion.
This is a falling rate suspension + heavy sled = bottoming. Pick your battles or CHECK OUT THE NEW POLARIS RUSH!!!!!!!!!!!!

why wouldn't you just revalve the expert x you already have and then put red loctite on all the bolts?
I have an expert x in an older viper that i beat like i hate it and it has never let me down. i have had some bolts backing out as you also stated but after applying loctite all is good.
i inspect everything before i ride just because i hate being dragged for hundreds of miles, thats usually when you find bolts backing out or losening.

I HAD an Expert-x in an RX-1 a few years ago - it went with the sled. I inspect everything too, and that's how I discovered the rails were cracked again BEFORE my trip. My dealer told me to ride it anyway as it didn't look that bad. Well in all fairness to Yamaha, I've got about 350 miles on a cracked suspension. But I am getting tired of rebuilding it year-after-year, and mid-way through each season, with the SAME parts the WILL break again.

As far as the RUSH is concerned, it reminds me of the old Pro-Action though it's probably 200x more durable, and everything Polaris claims but I DO NOT buy first year sleds. Besides, you can't judge a product by the DVD you get in the mail.

That would fix any of those suspenson problems.

AND... it's not butt ugly!!!

All kidding aside, why that skid isn't in production on our side of the pond is a total mystery. That's a seriously nice stab at a perfomance trail skid.....

Now doubt about it, ZX2 is the way to go.
With my mono I had somewhere around six major failures in 10,000 miles. With the ZX2, in 11,000 miles I have had zero major failures and am still on the first set of hyfax.

I broke my first front arm on my 07 RTX about 2 weeks ago. I have 10,000 miles on that skid and I ride hard. The reason it broke is because of my incompetence. I had 10,000 miles on my shocks as well with no rebuild and finally they blew which led to the front arm failure. Instead of buying a front arm I found a smoking deal on a 06 Nytro skid and bolted that in my sled. The 06 Nytro skid is noticably weaker than the 07 RTX skid. I will be putting an 07 RTX front arm in my nytro skid for next season. I have been very happy with the durability of my pro active skid. Next season the shocks are going to get a Pioneer revalve. I will be curious to see how it holds up after that.
