I had the carbs cleaned and rode 95 miles and the warning lite came on. I didn't notice which symbol was with it as I thought it was the temparature lite. I stopped and let it cool then started out and the lite came on again. I undertand that the engine goes into a safe mode and so I rode it about 10 miles. I checked the temperature sensor and the thermostat and they checked out in spec. the oil level was about 1/2 qt low I added 1 qt to bring it up the the full side of the mark. the oil sensor check out to spec. I checked the coils and installed a new set of plugs. It started but still ran in the safe mode?????
Now I can't get the motor to start.
How do you get it out of the safe mode?

Do you get a flash pattern to go with the symbol. Please tell us exactly what lights (color) and what symbol are showing. You could have a TORS or throttle override system failure, then the sled will only run up to a set rpm 2800 rpms ??? Have you checked your battery, if the battery is low on amps and volts you will have problems. Charge it with a electronic type charger like the Optimate III or similar.

  • I was told that the rx1 has a run safe mode where the engine will only run up to an rpm that will allow the machine to limp back. I'm not sure if this is what I was running on or if that is so.
The RPM was top @ around 7500.
The lite was the one on the right of the 3 indicators. (Low coolant, Highbeam, Warning).
I didn't look for which warning indicator was lit as I assumed the temperature lite was on. Didn'think

After I picked up the machine from the dealer I rode about 70 miles and the ambient air temperature was around 0 degrees, the next day the temperature was up to 28 Degrees.
There was nothing blocking the coolers and they felt the same as and 05 rx that I was rideing with. So I decided to ride it back.
Then it started to run like it had a bad plug and we were close enough about 10 miles to the trailer.
After I was home I started it and the temperature was about 26 degrees but it still ran bad so I checked the thermostate, temperture switch, and the oil level gauge. They all checkedout in spec.
    I put new plugs in.
I checked the compresion with my thumb over the spark plug holes while sealing them with a piece of leather. The compresion feels the same in all 4 cylinders.
The warning lite could have been from the oil being low but with adding oil and having the oil on the high side of the sensor just above the F on the sensor the fault should correct itself.

You may overheated, but I don't know if there is any failsafe mode kicking in, sorry.

Over heating will be the thermometer symbol and warning light on.

Low on engine oil will be the engine symbol and warning light on.

What is she doing now after the adding oil?
Have you tried bleeding the coolant system for air. Raise the back of the sled in the air, unscrew the bleed screw and watch for air coming out with the coolant, if air is escaping let coolant out until no more air is coming out. Tighten the bleed screw and add coolant up the to cold level mark in the coolant bottle under the hood. Take it for a ride. Air in the cooling system will make the sled overheat no matter the ambient outside temps or amount of coolant in the bottle, or coolant temps. Air will make air locks inside the engine stopping coolant flow, coolant heats up, at some point the coolant reaches the temp sensor and you will have the warning sybols coming on.

There's the three lights- warmup, highbeam, warning in that order from left to right. If the warning(exclamation point) light is on, so is an icon in the display. There's a check engine, temp, and low fuel I believe. If the check engine icon was displayed, the warning light should have been flashing a pattern. The common ones are in your owner's manual or online.

If the temp light is you'll hit a rev limiter...my sled did once on marginal snow. I don't remember the exact RPM, but it topped out at like 50mph. If that happens, pack your floorboards full of snow and the temp light should go off. You can keep riding, but keep refilling the floorboards and watch your hyfax.

I do not know about any safe mode for overheating. If it is overheating you either cool it down or shut it off. If you run it overheated, you can damage the engine.

Lets go back to the first post. Carbs were cleaned, run it a while, then it started acting up. Did you check to see if TORS is adjusted correctly. It could be you have the throttle cable too adjusted to tight.

Now it is not running. Did you check to see if there is gas in the tank. You do get a warning lit when the gas is low.

Do you now have spark?

Have you checked the wiring harness in the nose of the sled for chaffing and potential shorting to the frame, etc.? This is common for '03s.
