Hey guys, looking to upgrade my factory clutch set up and am overwhelmed by the choices out there. My primary riding is groomed trail but I love to boondock when I can! Any advise for clutching would be great!!! THANKS! :yam:

Heel clickers.

I bought the heel clickers with the hammer time. This little money purchase was a good improvement. Very user friendly. After alot of research and some input from factory Yamaha racer, this is what I bought. I have road a 05 (mine is a 04) that was factory and noticed a big diffference. All though after 2000 miles with the heel clickers and 5000 factory miles. I had the clutches looked at and the primary sheaves were badly worn (grooved) and had crackes. So after I bought a new clutch, I reinstalled the heel clickers, this time with the factory spring in the primary, which lowered the ingagement from 5500 to 3500 rpm. This made a much smoother start, hoping this might save the new clutch and my arms. Good luck with your research.

There is lot of room for improvment on clutching on the rx1's.The Ulmer kit works great the cpr kit is good too but the ulmer is faster.

clutching

a good low buck set up that works well is the yamaha o/s/o primary spring with the stock arms with a yamaha sillver secoundary spring. this set up works and for not much cash . you and your freinds would never beleve that its the same sled . ;)!

I have the Ulmer kit in my warrior. It is night and day better than stock. This thing pulls like a freight train on steroids. The engine braking is also pretty much gone. They know there kits, and can help you tune them after the sale. Maxdlx

i am running the ulmer kit on my warrior as well. i really like it.

i called ulmer when i orderd it and told him what i weighed without gear. he sent the weights loaded and they where spot on for me. he even asks you what power up mods you have done or plan to do to your sled so he can load the weights accordingly for your application. a really great guy to deal with.

GET RID OF THE 2 CYCLE SPRING IN YOUR DRIVE CLUTCH AND PUT IN A 4 CYCLE SPRING WILL MAKE YOUR SLED RIDE LIKE A NORMAL SLED , WITH OUT CHANGING THE PERFORMANCE.

For starts gear the darn thing down. You'll love the consistant upshift and backshift regardless of conditions. This will aid your performance when boon-docking too. Go with a 1.80 (40/22 or 38/21) ratio initially...consider 1.90 later. My preference for primary springs is to go as light as possible. Find a weight set that will work for a 10,500 rpm shift and let her rip! By the way, the low rpm engagement (soft spring) will wow your friends...deep snow takeoffs will be a piece of cake while your friends with high engagement will go under. And if you're worried about top-end loss when gearing down then setup your clutches for overdrive. Zilla.
