Water Temp Gauge

Quick question for you guys. I installed a Water Temp Gauge from Ulmer today. I'm getting a little coolant seeping out where the sensor screws into the fitting. How far down do I tighten the sensor? Right now I have 2-3 threads showing still and not sure if it's cool to go down all the way. Thanks.

Did you use any teflon tape? That's what I used when I installed my Prosports gage.

yep, teflon tape was on there already. Called Allen and he said just wrench it down all the way until you can't turn anymore. That's pretty much what I did earlier and the small leak disappeared. I was just afraid to strip out the sensor.

if its a single wire guage and the sensor adaptor is the ground you cant use teflon tape or pipe dope. if it is a dual wire sensor then it is okay to use teflon or pipe dope. its 1/8 npt thread so nothing should be required. just tighten it really good.

It's a 3 wire temp gauge. 1 wire goes to the sensor, the other wire is power and the last one is ground. Tap the power into a keyed power source and ground the other one. Allen said it is a 1/8" NPT thread, so just tighten it till it won't go anymore... so that's what I did. If I had to do it again, I would install the sensor with the fitting out of the sled. Following the directions, it says to install it after the fitting is placed in the coolant line.
