Apex water temp sesnsor

Hi

I want to install a water temp gauge on my 2006 Apex. Can I remove the sensor in the thermostat housing and install there or do I have to install a sensor T housing in a coolant hose.

Where is the best place to cut that in?

I have seen them installed on the return line below the T-Stat but I put mine on the short hose on the top of the motor going to the T-Stat. It would be the hottest coolant coming out of the motor.
