so yes, i'm weird and had a dream like this. could you get rid of the clamp style, weld on some tabs to the header pipes, and the other half, and use ski-doo exhaust springs? they turbo all kinds of 2 strokes and use stock y-pipe exhaust gaskets and springs, so they must be strong enough for a naturally aspirated vector. any thoughts?
It has been thought of before but I don't think it has been done yet. Tabs for the springs go under the header bolts, the clamps stay on, and tabs are clamped or welded to the y pipes for the other end of the spring.

sounds to me like a great idea, you'd always have tension on the donut...but maybe this should just stay a dream haha

That's how Hindle's exhaust is.

ya, hindle totally gets rid of flex joints. our flex joints are in good shape, but yamaha's silly clamp style aint very effective at keeping tension on the donut without modiffying the clamps, which i have done (shortened the stop, and squeezed them in a vise to pinch the two halfs closer together) adding a very strong spring will keep better tension on them tho. i'll make a tab to go under the header bolt n go from there.
