Well it happened. My worst fear about buying the viper.

My viper is now sitting over in my buddies yard. I had to have her towed back and get a ride home.

I came around a really icy corner at about 15 mph, she slid around, the track caught, and she popped up on her right side for about 15 seconds. (really missing the ice ripper track at this point) I got her righted and before I could throw my legs back over the seat she died. Upon attempting to restart the oil light was on and P1338/P1339 were flashing on the dash. Im guessing it lost prime? It was late, and both my buddies have to get up extremely early for work so I had to take the ride home instead of figure it out.

I know its prolly nothing, and I am being a bit caught up in the frustration, but damn. I NEVER had an issue with the Apex like this, and she was on her side a few times. Same with the Phazer. This is just f**king stupid.

not that it matters, but here at TY there are a half dozen threads that match P1338, but over at arcticchat there are zero threads that have P1338 in them.

Pull the aluminum tube out of the air box on the mag side and plug it with your finger. Crank it over and it will regain pressure. You won't need to pull your sled. Just remove the right side panel. It's not overly easy but very doable. Hope this helps and you don't have to tow it anywhere.

add another 300 ml of oil and it gives more head pressure to prime pump. Just have to hit kill switch and turn key over a few cycles and away you go.

Or you can get a rollover valve from fourstrokesolutions and it has this feature built in to prime pump.

I am too lazy to look it up but you could lose prime on an Apex too...I did. You would tip sled on 45% angle and crank it and it would reprime, but I have forgotten which side...over on left side I think...anybody remember? And does this tip thing work with Viper?

Im sure you can loose prime on an Apex, but the viper seems to loose it instantly when on the right side.

I posted this thread during extreme frustration. Now I just wish I woulda known what to do so I couldhave rode home.

If it is still in that condition can you try holding over on left side at 45% angle and see if Apex/Nytro reprime trick works? Would really like to know if it does as eventually ours will be on its side.

Thanks!

yeah, still over at my friends house. I wont be able to get over there until this afternoon. Its silly how easily this happened. It was such a low speed that when it tipped I literally landed on my feet and took like two steps, turned around and tipped it back. 15 seconds is 'prolly overkill for an estimate of how long it was on her side.

I tried the left side re prime trick on my viper, sometimes it worked other times no so much.. I'm gonna try ball valve in line on vent

I was able to do the left side trick twice in a row, I had the machine propped up on a tall stand just leaning on the left side for 3 min each time.

I think someone was talking about doing this same thing over the phazer subforum not too long ago. Where would one even start to look for a ball valve?

Hardware store should have one..brass valve for gas service should work....if it does work like I'm thinking..my next install is gonna be a normally open solenoid valve... on a small push button.. to press and hold while bumping motor over.. to re prime oil pump

That was me using a automotive PCV valve as a rollover valve. But that is just to keep oil in engine not for the prime.
