Some of the 03 and 04 rx1s have problem burning oil. They changed the rings in 05 and it cured the problem. Some 03 and 04's did get replaced by 05 rings.

8500 miles on my 03 the only issue I have had was the jackshaft bearing which was replaced under warranty with the 04 version (locking collar).

FYI I just bought the updated locking collar kit and is $64, dont let it sway you. The 03 is a awesome sled.
No real reliability issues just lacks a tiny bit of technology compared to later years:
Proaction rear suspension, durable but heavy and can be hard to get to ride right
No fancy magnesium bits to help reduce weight
No titanium exhaust to reduce weight
Lowest seat of all rx's
All of these are minor and as cheap as RX's go you can make all upgrades and have one nice sled. I love mine, hence I am tearing it apart serviceing/upgrading everything and it will be ready to ride for 8000-10000 miles.

Is the sled in perfect condition? It's all about condition and you really these sleds can go a lot of miles you may find one a little cheaper somewhere else but this one could have all the updates too which may count for something. Your from Wisc come to Haydays and look around you'll either come away with a good deal or have a much better understanding of what you can get for how much.

Every year RX had their problems, But nothing you cant over come. Awesome sleds just need to tinker a little with them. YAMMY has always overstated the performance on their sleds. You can bring them up to the performance levels advertised with some mods. Dont get me wrong I only ride yammys have all my life Im just telling youe the truth.
