What are your thoughts on the 05 RX1-Mono Susp.

Fox1 RX1 It is supposed to be adjusted while stopped but I think thats only for safety reasons Dukester puts on way to many miles to waste time stopping  I did talk to a Rep at the Snow Mo show and he said he adjusted it on the fly all the time although admitted it was supposed to be done while stopped.

Thanks Convert. I think I read it on the CD that was sent out by Yamaha on the 05 models. It sure sounds great but I'm going to wait another season to see how it stands-up before selling the old 03.

Hopefully it will be better than Ski-Doo's swing arm suspension that only was produced for one season.

It had better be. It is true though that the Mono Shock Rear Suspension has been sort of the Holy Grail for the OEMs. Everybody wanted it, yet up to now none of them has made a viable version of it. I sure hope Yamaha got it right, since I dropped the change to get one...

My money is one them, since the same could have been said about 4 stroke engines in snowmobiles 4 years ago, and look where we are now. Yamaha has two VERY competitive 4 strokes, Cat (Suzuki) has one that we know of with undoubtedly more coming. I personally don't care for the big twin approach of Doo and Polaris, but they fill a niche.

I think the Yamaha is really onto something with the new 3 cylinder motor. My guess is that this motor will eventually be released in a factory turbo form and replace the 4 cylinder in the RX-1, if it is truly that much lighter than the 4. Given the lack of reduction gears and one less cylinder, I believe that it is. It is certain to get better fuel mileage than the 4 as well.

The suspension should be adjusted when stopped. But the rep. told me that as long as you adjusted it when the suspension wasn't moveing a lot everything would be fine.

The connection to the shock is a flex shaft simular to a speedometer cable. The shaft then adjust a clicker arangement like on the warrior. Therefore it shouldn't effect the shock mechanics at all, It turned easly when adjusted on the fly except when you were in the middle of large bumps causing lots of suspension travel. In that case turn the adjuster when you have a break between bumps.

The main thing with this suspension is to adjust the preload for your weight. This results in a definite sit in position like the M10. I think the sit in was 2". I set it for 3'' and then set the adjuster to about 8 and went up and down from there. The ride was fantastic like an M10 but without the massive rebound and rear instability of the M10.

Good feedback...I too heard that you are "supposed" to be stationary while adjusting but geeeesh wouldn't it be nice to "Shift on the fly" when you get into the junk?

Dukester,

How did you find the cornering at higher speeds? Did it tend to understeer or push like in the CDROM videos?

I didn't get a chance to try one out, but I did order an 05 RX-1 ER - Candy apple red...

I ordered a 2005 RX-1 ER and I currently have a 2002 700 Classic with an M-10. From what I have seen so far the new suspension looks a lot like my M-10 which add a single problem.... it didn't transfer weight at all! So hopefully it will give me the same ride but with way more weight transfer.

My dealer was also telling me that there will be a kit available to adjust the suspension remotely from the handle bar instead of the side of the tunnel. Let's wait and see if this will turn out to be true!

That would be the Ohlins electronic shock but that is the full retail for it. They aren't giving any credit for the stock shock and adjuster ? :o|

I asked the sales rep about the remote adjustable Ohlin when I ordered my sled. All he said is "Man, it is expensive" He had no info on it as the accessories catalog wasn't out and he didn't even try to sell me one :o| :o| :o| If he had offered a credit for the original shock or at least had some info on it I might have layed down the extra for it.
