well i refuse to give the yamaha dealer 120 bucks for a new chain as i work at a honda dealer and can get an aftermarket one at cost. but what chain is in the apex? is it a HYVO or just a silent? i never paid any attention when i was in there last summer. also how many plates/width is it. gonna change my gearing to a 22/38 with a 68p chain while im installing a new track.

Manual says chain type is Borg Warner Automotive 23RH303-70ASM
Picture in manual show chain as 13 plates wide hope this helps

Do yourself a favor and spend the dough, or youll be into a chaincase next, just my opinion you ride a $10.000 sled dont cheap out on a chain or as your walking of the trail or lake youll be cusing aftermarket these are just my experiences LOL PS did i mention ive been through a chaincase with a aftermarket chain that SNAPPED LOL

No kidding....you own a top of the line, high performance sled, with gobs of torque, and you're going to mess with after market crap to save 50 bucks? Don't get it, sorry.

i hear you guys. what i was looking at was a TEAM chain and top gear. not some cheap no name brand.

UPDATE: the chain sold as TEAM is a BORG WARNER 3/4" wide HYVO chain.
thanks everyone

Do not want to start anything here, so please take this as helpful information only . . .

Guys, Yamaha does not make chains. Like many parts on the sled they use other manufacturer's products (Borg-Warner in this case). I have a buddy who works for Borg-Warner and could tell us all a great deal about the actual chain in these sleds. However, for myself I need to spend my time elsewhere. I do not know who makes the chains that Team sells, but it could very well be Borg-Warner as well. You should be able to get the 23RH303-70ASM from an automotive distribution channel for less than the Yamaha part sells for.

At a real basic level - what you need to know is . . .

pitch (3/8 maybe)
width (3/4 maybe)
pin type (round most likely)
and links (70 in this case)
any special features (guide plates, random links, etc.)

I don't recognize the number used here, but maybe someone else does and can translate to a Morse (part of Borg Warner now) number. Then all you could have a chain made in this lenght. This is likely what Team and other aftermarket companies do.
