Well, after reading a couple of posts in regards to the RX-1 carbs, I decided it might be a good idea to take mine off and clean the pilots. I got the carbs off, pulled one float bowl and checked it, everything was clean. I decided to just re-assemble. Now, with the airbox off, it will not pull past 7000 RPM, where prior to that, it would.
Anyone have any idea where to look? I do not think it is a electrical issue, as it does not hit a rev limiter. If I take two of the vacume slides, and pick them up with my fingers, it will rev. Is it vacume? There are two loarger rubber lines, (approx .500 OD) that are between the outside carbs. I can't find anywhere to hook them to. I am seriously dazed and confused!

Could those be the connections used for syncing the carbs ?

I am assuming no, as there are only two, not four.
It's the airbox. Put it on and all will be fine. The slides won't work correctly with airbox off.

yeah what he said we are discussing it in messenger
BTW I think the two tubes you are talking about are the vent tubes. They don't go anywhere except atmosphere.

So, what would I have to do if I wanted to run it with no airbox? Hypethetically, so I know what is exactly going on.

You would need lighter springs and some sort of filter or the airbox to cause a vacuum. The carbs don't work properly with no vacuum created. They might rev higher with just silver carb springs from Holtzman Eng. but you still won't hit peak RPMs IMHO.

To get it to work properly without the airbox or any kind of restriction there, really you need to change the carbs to something thats not vacuum activated.

Well, you all were right (Dave bows and worships all those who are more knowledgeable)
Put the airbox back on, and everythign runs like before.
The reason I tore into it, was that it was stumbleing about 6-7000 RPM. Well, it is still doing that. What are the opinions?

Patience young man. Ride it in the snow when the temps are more favorable and the engine is looser.RX-Dave said:Well, you all were right (Dave bows and worships all those who are more knowledgeable)
