New set of sliders, 24 Kms on the sled.
Last set I got over 1000Kms on them.
I changed the sliders out and gave the sled to my father, I knew the snow might be hard in the morning so I made sure he had a new set.
He ran it and the overheat light came on. He never put the scratchers down. Waited for it to cool down then drove it back to the camp. everything was frozen from the night before, so the snow was rock hard.
Low snow Kit on the skid.
Is this normal or is something else wrong, 3rd set of sliders on the machine, last time I bought a set that you had to cut to fit, this year I bough yamaha ones that were the proper size.
It's like something was rubbing on the inside of the rail.
thanks

I would guess track clip is damaged and rubbing on the hyfax causing the shavings

thats some strange looking stuff there. either way, the worst mistake anyone can make with slides is to put new ones on and head out full power on ice. I also wouldn't recommend having a guest break in new slides, its not fair to them. even dirt with a few puddles offers more.
half worn slides would probably still look half worn. because they were new, the smoked out big, thank god yamahas have so much power.

I think the track clip is damaged too but I could not find it.
Probably where i used reverse to get the old ones off.
Nothing I could do about him breaking it in, i ran it in the garage as much as i could, bit i knew it was not enough.
The slides were late coming in.
He was suppose to drive a 50 k on soft snow first but he finds the sled hard to handle so he trailered it the first 50 klicks.

Slides
It almost looks like threads/fibers from the track. If there are track clips missing check the track where the clips are supposed to be. (It should be smooth) Also, check to see if the slides are wore thru to the rails. It appears that things got pretty warm.

you can see in the top picture that the left track lug has melted some. I would first get extra wheels on the front of the skid. ASAP.
I would think since you did not touch the track tension, that it is running a little out of alignment. Raise the back end up and let her rip, I am sure you will find your track running to the left side, easy fix.
You should always check track alignment after installing new slides.

Get some 135mm idlers and toss the Yamaha one's as far as you can. I had the same problem this year on the wife's sled. Took out a slider in 6 miles after a scratcher broke. Looked like enough snow was getting kicked up from the one spring scratcher but I guess not. I ordered a longer bolt for the front idler and put them inline with the inside front idlers and put another set the next hole back that allowed wheel clearance. This left me one more hole in the skid to install cable scratchers for the real bad days. By the way this was done on a MTX 153 and 162. Not sure what length you have. I ordered my wheels from Recreation Supply and they have the same pattern as the rear idlers on the sled. Royal Distributing probably carries the same wheels. With the stock idlers the sliders were in full contact with the clips and you could spin the wheels while the sled was sitting on the garage floor. Not with the larger wheels.
