I just got back from riding, and i thought i would have a look under the skis. I have about 350 miles on my 07 Apex, and the carbides are probably already half wore. It's pretty sad how yamaha only puts on like 2 or 2.5 inches of carbide. With such a heavy front end, and crossing roads often, they are not going to last. So what are people replacing them with? Id like to have at least a 6 inch carbide, i don't run studs but i want something that is not going to wear fast from crossing roads, so i'm guessing the longer the carbide the better. Any ideas? These are to be used on the stock yamaha skis. Thanks guys

The longer the better is not the case with making carbides last longer...its the quality of the carbide. The old saying you pay for what you get holds true here. Plus without your sled being studded...a longer carbide will might actually have too much "grab" and your rear/track will be/feel loose(as in like nascar loose or like you are hitting an ice patch). You will probably be fine with 4" carbides with an unstudded sled...just make sure the carbide is one of quality.

I have 144 studs and didn't like the way the 6" dooleys steered, so I'm trying 8" dooleys.

I ran the 8" doolys and 144 studs all of last year and was happy with the results. Took care of the darting but pushed a bit sometimes in the corners. The reason I chose to switch to the Pilot skis was due to the hard steering I had with the 8" doolys and stock skis.

Unstudded I use 4 1/2" studboy duece bars......... They take a beating.. Run straight and corner as good as shaper bars.

Unstudded 06 Apex GT.
Tried 6" shaper bars last year and seemed very good even though they wore from riding in poor early season conditions
Going to put on the 6" Duece bars for this winter.

I use the same. Always straight as an arrow. Cut thru any tracks in the snow.

I had good luck emailing (never on the phone) with Scott Bergstrom this summer. I tried lately and maybe he's got a spam filter that is nixxing me.
I just cut him a check and mailed it to him. I think it took about 2 weeks. I probably couldn't reach him for about a month prior to just trying good ol' USPS.
I haven't tried them but he recommended I start with 6" TPs for my setups and general style. (pretty green riders and the Rage has 108 picks up the middle and the Vector has 144 across the whole track).
