Hello, im sure it has been asked many times but i have a new to me 2004 Rx1 and was just curious of the type of coolant preffered, i was told to stay away from dexcool as it gels plus i seen a few ppls gunked up newer machines on dexcool.

ppl keep telling me to use the yellow stuff so i figured i might as well come right to the source of the 4 stroke knowledge to see what coolant is preffered.

again im sure it has been asked before but i couldnt find it, thankyou in advance.

Derek

I think the DEXCOOL is ment for GM vehicles. My old pontiac called for dex cool.

As long as it is a "high quality silicate-free ethylene
glycol antifreeze" lol you will be good to go, i use prestone.

How cold does it get in Regina? maybe up the mix to 60-40 coolant-water.

The main thing with dexcool is that it does NOT mix with the green stuff. Two entirely different types of Glcol, Ethylene and propylene, and they gel up and cause all kinds of issues when mixed. A LOT of people had issues with Dexcool when GM introduced it as there were issues with the cast iron blocks and aluminum heads (Di-Electric charge I think?)

If I remember correctly, My sled came with Green coolant. Just stick with green coolants and in a 50/50 mix. I suggest buying unmixed coolant and mixing 50/50 at home with distillled water. The 50/50 pre mix is much more expensive by volume.

Winter version of Yamacool coolant...it comes premixed @ -62F (-52C). Cut it with some distilled water to bring up the freeze point and better cooling, -62 is overkill.

-62 wow..can't imagine. I've only seen it at 40 deg below here in NH.

Are you sure about the better cooling? I believe on the back of a Prestone jug it gives the ratings for freeze points, 50/50=good 60/40=better meaing a lower freeze point which in my eyes would mean better cooling? :dunno:
Personally I always try and run a 60/40 mix, it has worked well for me over the years and I have never had a overheat situation yet.

Ty for the responses i just thought i would check as i hear alot of ppl have green running in theyre 4 strokes and this rx1 has a orange ish coolant, it hasnt overheated or seemed to run hot was mainly askin incase there was a known type that doesnt gel/corrode as much and just run cleaner, cooler for when i do a change down the road

Surprised to hear that.
My guess is someone changed out the factory green Prestone/anitfreeze for some Dexcool?
Not sure why as I think the regular green anitfreeze/Prestone is far superior to this Dexcool crap.

Just make sure, if possible that it is entirely orange with no hint of green remaining. (Maybe do another change just to be sure, I know I would but I would probably switch back to the green as well)

Anyone have blue coolant? a friend of mine has blue coolant in his 2011 Nytro it came from the dealer that way. Is this compatible with other coolants?

I thought that my Vector came with blue coolant as well?

It seems that I have to look harder...I swear that all I see offered in automotive stores are things that safe "safe to mix with all makes and models." I haven't knowingly seen "green stuff" in a while.
