I have a 2015 viper rtx my stock carbides are already worn down and was wondering what kind of 4inch carbide I should get

Is your track studded? I have 135 studded up the middle and I have 6" Woody's inside and outside on stock tuner skis. Still working on handling a bit as I am a little darty in powder. Might be the skis though.

No it is not studded

I had Woody's 6" in and out installed when new....after 600 mi and a bit of that riding the side of the road lost and looking for the trail....got home and they still look new. Very happy I listened to everyone and changed the stocks right from the start.

Do you have any darting in powder or freshly groomed trails? How is your cornering? .

It railed on fresh groomed trails, zero darting. The only darting I experienced was at low speed on heavily used trails with many iced up ski tracks, seemed like it was searching for a line (not bad or unsafe but I could feel it in the steering).....at 40-60mph it went away.

Cornering was great....a little bit of push in loose snow corners but that was solved with throttle control and picking a wider line in the "pre-corner".

The reason I decided to trade my Nytro for the Viper was that I was always butt puckered on the Nytro on straight trails (groomed or otherwise) as it seemed to have a mind of its own randomly wanting to dump me off like a bull. I am VERY happy with the handling of this Viper in comparison.....like I told my buddy after the first 100mi "Wow....so this is what snowmobiling is supposed to be about". I wasn't worn out from fighting the sled in the straights, my arms weren't tired from cornering, and I didn't feel like the sled was trying to kill me all the time.....in fact several times I could easily cruise along the railbed with only one hand on the bar.

I put a pr of 7.5" shapers on mine with the stock junk on the outside position, but the Bergstrom triples with ski savers are intriguing. I think the ski saver poly may help to add a bit more keel to the skis.

do you remember what you paid for them?

They were "part of the deal" when I bought it so I'm not sure,

Your not studded are you?

I used to think that the stock junk was OK for teh outer position, but I take that back now. I bent one of the originals before I put shapers on the inner slot. I kept 2 straight ones and have now bent another while the shapers are straight and true. The stockers belong in the scrap pile.

Yamaha needs to take cues from Doo and put a simple, inexpensive, yet well built 4" carbide on from new.
