OK I know this is a Yamaha board but I am looking for honest answers. I do not regularly drag race but I have alot of friends that like to race around and goof off. I have a bone stock 03 RX-1 shorty 144 trail picks carbide tipped. I would like to know how it will stack up against my friends sleds 99 Mach Z 02 ZL900 02 Viper 02 SRX and 01 Mach 1 . These sleds are mostly stock maybe a jet change to help with weather and small clutch mods like adjustments and stuff no parts replaced just tuned in. They are all bragging about how fast they go etc But from past experience well you know they where faster yesterday or the other day than the day you race them type of thing. What should I expect for performance copmpared to these sleds. Looking up weight HP readings The RX is about similar to the Mach Z. Are they all faster out on the lake or 660 feet or 1000 feet etc. Just wanted to get an idea of what you have all seen in the past.

I have asked these same questions so many times...

I had a 02 viper and i will tell you my warrior would eat it alive.. not even close... I can pass my buddys xcsp 600 within 60 feet like he is standing still and his sled was almost as fast as my viper...

Should run with the srx pretty good... should top end the mach z..

I didnt think they made a ZL 900?? If they did i would say you might get beat!!

From my experience most of them machines will run aprox 110-115mph on radar. A new belt, and a perfectly lined and tunned power train with minimal ski carbide and slippery sliders will give you the edge for top end. I once seen 118mph with my radar on my RX-1, but 112-115mph were a common run for me. Proper setup applies to the others as well so don't under estimate any of them. As an X Mach Z owner, my RX-1 is faster in 660', but proper setup can make or break the top end. When I had my Mach Z, most of my freinds had the same machine and it was common to see 5-6 sled lengths difference in 1000' on all the same machines. Key word is "PROPER SETUP". 1 mph slower speed still makes you a loser though so maybe thats why we go out of our way to get our RX-1s running strong.

Thanks guys I am not into racing but from what they where all bragging about it was like I had the slowest sled there. It would have maxxed out my credit card for that turbo to wipe them all out with LOL I just was wondering when we hit the lake and we all nail it was I going to be eating snowdust or beside them or somewhere close etc.

I can tell you from first hand experience, if you have the stock track and there is snow on the lake, keep your sheild down cuz all you will most likely be eating is snow dust and crow. That track does not work very well in snow.

I have 144 carbide tipped trail picks. what track works better? It seems to go really well on a packed trail. Is it powder unpacked conditions it has problems in?

Yes race it is only mealy snow you may have a problem with, but if you have miles on the sled and it is geared and clutched all stock it will take you a mile plus, and you can run w/the best of them, take some tip weight off last rivet in tip of ramp will let it rev up to 10,400 max where it will run even faster if it shifts out, good luck. 8)

Do not mess with that MachZ if you have stock clutching. Get Heavy Hitters and I would also highly recommend K&N's from ECP to really wake up the Genesis :D

I plan on the ECP kit and I am looking into clutching. I talked with Freddie from ECP and he gave me some people to talk with on clutching. It looks like the Heavy Hitter is the way to go alot of people using it. I am hoping I can find someone like me that trail rides and wants to race some on the lake but doesnt spend all of his time out there, will share or have a setup that works real well. I am not sure how much the clutch kit costs but I dont think 250 is bad for pretty much a stage 3 K&N jet kit.

RACE24X.........
Warning on the MACH Z. I too had a 99 MACH Z and in stock form, the first year it saw 122MPH on RADAR. (no kidding). The conditions were perfect and the mach gods were shining. :P It ran side by side with stock t-Cats. It never ran that good again. Always 116-119 on top. If your Bud has it clutched it will run better out of the hole.
I had that sled until I bought the RX-1.
The RX-1 is a far superior machine but has never seen 122 no mater how much I put into it.
The other sleds you mention will be NO TROUBLE.
As 192 woody's says...... make sure you on very hard pack or better yet ice as the stock finger track is TERRIBLE in snow. Great for a snowmobile LOL!!
