What sled should I get?

I searched and couldn't find what I was looking for. What I'm looking for is:
-4 stroke
-non electric start
-no reverse
-no electric steering
-no electronic throttle control
-would prefer carb over efi
-would prefer free air or fan cooled
-reliable and simple

Thanks in advance. Hopefully I can benefit from everyone's knowledge.
I'm a big fan off Yamaha all of my bikes have been Yamahas. Not that knowledgeable about snowmobiles though but really want to stick to Yamaha
Somebody please post Johnny and Bunny video get this guy up to 2006 then he can go from there...LOL

VX1R: That was awesome! I was thinking in my head how far back we'd be talking....just as I scrolled over your post.

Thanks for the laugh! Freaking great!

rx or rs are as close as you are going to get yamaha wise.

You would also have to give up your free air or fan cooled if you want a 4 stroke (or most 2 strokes for that matter). Only liquid cooled. You would have to look for an older 2 stroke if you don't want liquid cooled.

Like all the others have said, these are all the things we have loved about your yamahas. E-start and EFI may seem like "complication" but let's be real, they have simplified our lives with them and taken choking, jetting, and rough running out of the equation. Even those of us with the High Mileage apexes with the stalling learned how to adjust the EFI back in the day (remember the paper clips and programming?) But 95% of owners don't ever have to mess with EFI or do a "Carb Clean" like the carbed sleds required seasonally. Not to mention side benefits of hardly ever changing plugs or even carrying a second set. For the very same reason I don't miss putting in oil.

Most of my buddys with SkiDoo Etec's don't miss carbs and recoil starting either. It's all gone.

I'm not sure if you are looking to get what you can in a lightweight package or just keeping it simple for maintenance sake, or thinking it will be a cost savings. But honestly, if it is not for weight, get all of the above and enjoy the convenience. With the advent of the Sidewinder, we are finally seeing the used market on the Apex and Vector take a hit. They have held value for quite some time, but we are finally seeing more hit the used market at unheard of low prices with folks heading to the Viper/Sidewinder.

So as others said, you can go looking for an old Carbed RX1 or Vector without reverse. But after the first time of lugging one of these trail tanks around when boxed in, you will be wishing you had gotten reverse. And leave fan cooled for the ice fisherman, and starter sleds. Liquid is the way to go.

Good luck!

My friend you are looking for the unicorn of sleds :) If you truly want what you have listed you will have to go 2 stroke and the best modern version of what you are looking for would be a 600 fan cooled carbed Ski-Doo. Otherwise if you really want a Yamaha you will have to cross most of those things off your list but the upside is that most of the newer Yamahas are reliable as hell.
