I am thinking of getting back into snowmobiling next season I got rid of my 2003RX1 in october, the only thing I liked about this sled was the power that the motor produced and the look of it. It was very uncomfortable, tippy but it ran flawlessly. I am looking at the new yamahas and I like what I see, Is the apex that much better? Most of my riding is on groomed trails. When is the best time to by, is there any advantages to snowchecking? Thanks for any responses

I had the chance to put several miles on a buddies RX1, and it was good but I think that the Apex is miles ahead of it, much more responsive, and feels much lighter to ride.
I didn't snowcheck my Apex, I just have a tough time putting out that much money without getting a test ride, but I was able to try it out on the grass at the Haydays grass drags this past year, and I was sold.
I now have over 700 miles on my apex and other than a couple off the little things ( problems with rear idlers, and the ever popular grip warmer debate ), I have been more than happy with mine.

You can't go wrong with the new Apex models. Generally the spring time is your best deal.

You cant even compare the rx-1 to the apex..
IT IS THAT MUCH BETTER!!
M-10 like ride... much flater handling and tons of comfidence when riding.. doesnt feel half as heavy expecially in the steering..
Get a attck, apex , apex gt or a RTX.. you cant go wrong

The biggest difference between the RX-1 series and the Apex series is the suspension. Not even comparable. It is the best suspended Yamaha sled I have owned. It is lighter, has FI, and of course rider forward helps to center the mass and make it handle better. You won't belive how much they have improved the model. This season is just about shot and with the fluky weather dosen't look to be a winter to remember. I would wait for the '07 as it won't already be a year old by next season. I've never been a fan of snow checking. Near snow checking prices can be had next fall with some careful looking around. Don't be in a rush and do your homework by reading everything you can, including this forum. Stick with Yamaha, you won't regret it. They are on the forefront of snowmobile technology and leaders in the industry. This is my sixth Yamaha, all I've ever owned and they just keep getting better. No, I don't work for the company or own any stock, wish I did.

I have owned several makes and models. My last being an 800 Rev. My new Attak is head over heels a funner and beefier machine. The rev was nice but the pure torque and instant throttle response of the new Yamaha engine is unmatched in my opinion. The suspension is top notch and with minor adjustments it handles like a dream. I will never go back to 2-strokes unless they can produce an enigine that feels better than this Genesis motor. I purchased the yamaha Attak based mostly on my experience with owning a Ford Taurus SHO. The SHO had a 220 hp Yamaha enigine that was a joint venture with ford. I went through three transmissions before i dumped the car . The engine had almost 200,000 miles on it and ran like the day it came out of the factory. Did not use one drop of oil and hummed like a kitten. This new engine from yamaha feels the same way and its hard to describe the feeling of pride you get when you run right on top of a "hot " 2-stroke and they cant figure out why they can't pull away from you.
My opinion is Yamaha builds a top-quality machine with a tremendously high tech and durable engine and now a top-notch suspension.
This suspension handle the moguls better the faster you drive. 70 mph over 12-18 inch moguls is no problem and you dont get beat up!!!!
Get an new Yamaha and I think you'll be happy. my thought would be the same why not wait for 07' models. they will be better i'm sure.....

Ditto to all those comments. Even my Mach Z friends were amazed at the improvement over my 03 RX1. Especially when I run right with them.
I never dreamed that I would own a Yamaha sled this year, but here I am. I love Yamaha, and have a Raptor and Warrior, but the old sled seating position sucked. There was nothing better out there than a REV as far as positioning until the Apex's came out. You sit and fit like you are on a R1 motorcycle, you have the engine of an R1 motorcycle, the thing is pretty bad #*$&@. I still love my REV, but I'm saving that one and it's 2 stroke for the motocross track where it fits best. On the trail the you can't beat the 4 stroke for it's performance and hugely broad powerband.

I think all these posts answer your guestion. Now all you have to do is get one and enjoy!
You can get one now for about $2000 less than a lot of us paid 4+or- months ago. You still have two months to ride, that is if you have snow or can drive to snow as I have to do.

Or, you do know that the '07's are comin' soon, RIGHT??? But, I would just get one now and RIDE!!!
These things are SWEEEEEEEEEEEET!

I would buy a nre R1 bike now and ride that for the next 9 months given the extreme lack of winter, then pick up a new Apex come the fall!
I currently own 05 RX1ER, my second RX1. This one was much better than the 03, but I still put a wide kit and an articulating handle bar riser on to make it handle better. Yesterday I was able to ride a Apex GT, Apex RTX, and an Attack. All of them were much better than my modified RX1. I felt the GT handled the best, but they may not have had enough air in the fox floats of the RTX. There wasn't enough rough to compare them in the bumps.

Groomed Trails = GT
All of the others are nice but the Apex GT really hit the mark in that specific application. The ability to adjust the rear shock with the handlebar toggle is simply awesome.

I've got an Attak, my buddy's got an RTX. The Attak tracks straighter & rides beter over the washboard chop. The RTX is absolutley a better handling machine in the twisties, it totally rocks & will blow your mind. The Attak's no slouch in the turns but the RTX is more flickable. It comes down to your preference in ride: Smoother on the bumps or better in the twisties. Either way, you can't go wrong.
