What stud pattern should I use for my 2012 Yamaha xtx, I want to keep them in the middle! also should I use round or square back plates

Is it a apex or nytro. I wouldnt do anyless then 152 on the nytro and more if its a apex. That is a 3-2-2 stud pattern on a 57 pitch track. Round is better because the squares turn. 1.45 is the shortest I would go!

it's a nytro xtx. I was thinking 171 running doubles and a single in each? over kill?

I dont really think so. You want to get all the torque down on the ground as fast as possible because they dont have much top end anyways. Im going to put more in soon and go longer as well. I have 1.40" and will go longer. I have 1 on the outside every 3rd pitch. I havent studed on the outside for many years but wanted the sled to hook up. 4 stroke power is instant from the get go so you want to capitolize on it. Im also a fan of the double backers too.

how about the 144 double single center pattern from woodys universal template? would be 172 studs leaving 2 pitches the same in the end would that hurt anything?

I have the 136" and i run 162 down the middle 4-2-4-2 the 4 are double backers and the 2 are single. and my singles i use round plates, dont like when the square ones turn.

Does the 4-2-4 pattern hook well? Or is there a better pattern to use?

I did use the 4-2-4 pattern on mt attak with all double backers. I staggered the 2 count pitch with doubles alternating sides. hooked really good.

Yes it hooks up really good, it's from woody's template.
Hi, I have a '12 Apex XTX also and have the Woodys 144" template from my last 144". The 114 stud pattern worked fine but I want more grip for the additional power that the Apex has. I want to use the Stud Boy Super-Lite Pro Backers which incorperate tall nuts into the backer itself but also act as an additional lug. I want to run a V pattern down the center with the double backers in a 4 4 4 pattern but I did the math and 57 x 2 is 114 double backers (two per row) which is 4 x 57 228 studs (LOL). Is that OVERKILL? Here is the pattern I have mapped out on my template....
and here are the backers I plan to use....
By looking at my template what would be the best plan of attack? I'm kind of a newb to the whole studding theory other then a couple 96 and my 114 stud jobs on our own sleds by the template from Woodys.
ALSO!!! I saw on another topic that the eyelet of the shock can get rubbed by the studs? Here is the quote....
Sorry for the long post but you get one shot at drilling a perfectly good track. I'm more then willing to reduce the amount of studs.

SSX600 said:Dont stud in the middle of track the studs will rub on the front shock eyelet. My XTX had 153 studs in it when I bought it but because the guy I bought it from studded it down the middle and they rubbed my shock eyelet about thru I removed the studs and am trying it without. We rode 400 miles this weekend and I had no issues without studs so I will probably leave it that way.
