So what to do next? I have had multiple Yamaha snowmobiles over the years, a couple of new ones, most have been a few years old with lower mileage, less than 5K, I've had good luck so no complaints here. I currently have a 2008 Vector GTLTX which has 10K miles which I bought for a good price and expected to do some work on it and ride it for a year or two and then look for a low mileage 2015/16 Viper which I have rode and like the platform. Last year the Vector ran great so I decided to do some maintenance in the off season to hopefully have a problem free 2020 winter. The sled was maintained better than most when I bought it but there's always something that can be addressed, at the end of the season as it sat in my garage I noticed a small amount of coolant on the floor, small table spoon or two sized puddle . After looking it over and doing some research the heat exchangers that run under the sides of the tunnel (under your feet) have areas where dirt/sand collect between them and the tunnel, wear thin, crack and leak. Found a good used pair online, removed the old ones, installed the new/used ones, flushed cooling system, refill with fresh coolant and that problems fixed. As long as track and skid were dropped went through skid bearings and replaced all that felt bad (previous owner had also replaced bad skid bearings, rebuilt mono shock and had replaced drive bearing on dry/clutch side prior to selling to me), slides looked new and track is in good shape. Sled has 9k miles on it at this point and after looking at steering decide to do a front bushing replacement as they are wore, get kit, do work and that's fixed. Looking at clutches, can see some wear so remove them both and take to a mechanic friend I know and have them rebuilt (he said they looked original but no big damage inside) replace rebuilt clutches along with new belt that's fixed. While clutches were off cleaned out old bearing grease on dry/clutch side and re greased bearings. New carbides, oil and filter change along with new battery and I'm thinking should be a good season of riding and it started out that way, rode around 800 miles without any issues and this last week getting ready to ride turn starter key and click, after doing some checking both the relay and starter are bad, starter magnet broke into small pieces and jammed up starter, not sure why after starter locked up the relay didn't blow a fuse but have starter out now and new OEM starter on the way along with new relay. I'm not bitter about any of the work I've done or the money I've put into the sled, I read about Yamaha's that have 20k or better on their odometers, not many manufactures can say that. So here's my question, I'm at this crossroads do I do some more maintenance on the Vector like rebuild the water pump and replace the fuel pumps, possibly have the carbs looked at by my mechanic for rebuild or put the starter in and see what breaks next? WHAT TO DO???? I totally understand that all sleds have problems, even the brand new ones just asking of some comments, opinions and/or advice.
