I'm doing a setback with the ZX-2 suspension in my Apex. I am currently at 144" and I am looking at either a 151" or a 153". Aside from the obvious difference in lengths, which of the following tracks will shine in the listed conditions.

I can get a brand new 15x151"x2" 2.52 Series IV (made for Polaris by camoplast) for what I consider a decent deal. I also see a lot of new 15x153"x2.25" 3.0 pitch Maverick take offs for even less money.

Either way, I will go fully clipped with extrovert drivers. Is one track better than the other in deep mountain snow. (Climbing and boondocking.) Will either track outlast the other for occassional trail riding such as in the UP with a lot of boondocking?

I see a lot of people taking off brand new Maverick tracks and opting for something else. Is there an inherent problem with these tracks? They seem to be giving them away for a song and a dance on Snowest. Is there really a big atvantage with a 3.0 pitch over a 2.52 pitch?

Any input is appreciated.

i think some of the older mavericks had a softer derometer and the lugs would fold over. correct me if i am wrong but i think guys here prefer camoplast extreme or power claw off a cat

The Maverick folds over in about 300 miles and takes a set! I put a CE on my nytro and it digs harder and the traction on the trail is much better. The Polaris normally has a stiff lug that doesn't take a set.

Do a search there is a ton of info on tracks.

To go to a Camo Extreme (2.5" lugs) you have to go to a 156" which require larger upper wheels - not a big deal just something to know upfront. IMO that is the route to take. A Camo 153 is only 2.25 - which is what i have - it is a good track for average POW and stuff that is setup. But get the 2.5, you will not be disappointed. There is a reason teh Mav tracks are cheaper and plentiful online... as previously mentioned - the lugs fold quickly and your buddies will call you "Grave Digger". Powerclaws are good too.

what do you mean by taking a set. I am planning to cut a series IV down to 1.5 or 1.75,but now I'm concerned as to what that means. Maxdlx

The Maverick is extremely soft. It folds over and stays there. The CE is a much harder durometer. If you still ride quite a few trails I would consider the CE that comes off a Cat. The Cats came with a Challenger Extreme but it was a softer durometer than the actual aftermarket CE. I cut my maverick up and use it for traction on my ramp for the trailer.

Hind site for me I should have probably gone with the one from a Cat, at least for this winter. But hands down the CE I have now out performs the Mav. No regrets really. Until yesterday we have had minimal snowfall, but the coming weekend should be great as snow is predicted all week.

Anything you decide on will be a improvement, but stay away from the Maverick. (IMO)
