I have a 09 Nytro and a 99 ZR 700. I always loved the handling of the ZR and I really love the Nytro's engine. I often wondered what it would take to put a Nytro engine in a ZR. Walla! The new Viper! Just snow checked a 2016 Viper l-tx-le after test riding one this winter. Iam in love with riding again.

So here's one more question for ya's. Does the XTX ride that much better than the short track version? I'm looking at a few for sale back here and there's only one short track Nytro but any amount of XTXs it seems.

Add everything that you can from Schmidt Brothers. Then add split rail skis and a riser. Big fun.

Xtx won't be much fun in trail especially once it gets really tight.

Fourbarrel,
My XTX rails the trails and has a better ride and more high speed stability than the short track models. Like mentioned above when the trails get very tight it is more of a challenge to hang with the short tracks but the better traction on ice, no need for studs and smoother more than make up for that. Like all Nytros you need to do some work to make any of them work properly. My upgrades to the XTX are: 1.5" crossver track
18.25" front shocks
JRE front spindles

I have already commented but... your question about xtx vs short track? I have the rtx, best trail sled ive ever ridden so if trail is all you ride the rtx is awesome, even tho i wanted a xtx but couldnt find a new one In the state of michigan. 2013 and 2014 nytro you dont need to do anything to as far as handling. If its older than that i would start with different skis. Which short track model nytro are you looking at? What year?

One of the short track Nytros I saw was an 08 with a new track and studs. All it had done to it was a wrap,no chassis mods at all.

Oh. The 08 definatly needs stuff done to handle good. Personally i would not buy an 08. But thats just me. Many people have them and love them.

I have a 2012 RTX I only had the chance to ride it a couple time as I bought it at the end of the season. I also have a good running 03 f7 and I was riding them back to back a couple weeks ago. The seating position and the ride is way better on the Nytro, it's not even close. I know the F7 is probably 100lbs lighter but you can't feel it. Speed goes to the old F7. I had them both out on the lake it was glare ice but it was a little soft. The Nytro will do just over 100mph. And on this day my F7 was running 115mph. Best this F7 has ever run was 118 mph. These were long runs with GPS. 15 mph is a HUGE difference on top end. If I was going to trail ride I would take the Nytro all day long. It has great pull on the bottom but dies out on top end.
I have already ordered parts to make it a little bit better. I have a trail tank coming, I wanted the extra fuel, I also ordered the comfort clutch kit to get the engagement down some, and I ordered the extra cooler for the tunnel, I just don't want the sled running HOT. Another thing I'm looking into is a better windshield. the stock one is tiny and gives no wind protection. All in All I think it's a great sled. No more burning oil and the sled will last forever. It's just put together so much better than my 03 F7 everything is very sturdy.

Only things i would change on my nytro that i haven't already done is to get a trail tank and a new suspension ala eazy ride. Yea and a new wider handlebar.
And i will use the summer to se if i can make a height adjustable seat on it and fit a ski-doo adjustable riser. But overall i am happy with the nytro now, i am driving in the trees al day playing now, and it handles ok on the trails
Se my signature for all mods i have done.

It'll likely be fall before I decide for sure if I'm going to get one or not, hopefully by then there'll be more sleds to chose from.

Jre spindles with the longer shocks and good skis (c&a or curve) wake these up in the trails. Get a reputable company to redo your shocks and you will be set (hygear did me proud). Wrp seat and oft relocate I feel are nessacary and trail tank is nice so your not "that guy". The newer vs older nytro debate idk, I guess to a point its true. I bought older cheaper and updated everything to make it right for what a few year newer model would have cost. And have much better machine at end of the day
