I'm in the market to change sleds and one of the models I'm looking at is the Nytro but have never tried one out.I've read lots about them and see some years are better handling than others,so for that reason I'll be looking for a 2012 or newer one.What I'd like to know from those that have a Nytro what have you done to your sled as far as customizing touches to make it ride differently (shocks/springs) than stock,handle differently (skis),seat (comfort),aftermarket gas tank (fuel range) or anything else to make for a better sled than how you bought it?
Has any of you tried your sled against a new Viper to compare how it rides and handles to one?I have a few friends that have a Cat version with the triple 4 stroke engine and they really enjoy their sleds but I just have doubts about buying a sled that's half and Arctic Cat.I understand that Yamaha has had a real positive influence on AC and their production practices which means that the new Viper should be a decent sled but there's still that seed of doubt in my own mind.
 

I can tell you first hand ........ I have a 2009 xtx. if you r not a real aggressive trail rider all out balls to the wall , hammer down,,,, .the nytro is fine out of the box .if you have crazy
riding partners then you might need an edge. just saying I had a tuff time catching up to the dooo 800 this kid is a long time dirt bike racer and a good sled rider .at first I couldn't
catch him the sled was not capable of doing it stock, if I wanted to kill my self I might of been able to pass him . now with some upgrades not a problem I can pass him at will .
I had a chance this year to take a ride on my friends new Yamaha / artic cat, not good I wanted my Nytro back asap NOT KIDDING. but I am sure with some upgrades it toooo would
be good , sorry for the long post . going with the mountain tech 42+2 . just wondering any body know if it will fit in my sled dock ??? lol or do I have to get a longer sled trailer ?

I have an '09 RTX (see mods below) and like it but my buddy's Viper was a great ride for me...

If I had the $$$ I'd be riding one, no doubt & the Wife could have mine.

I have both. I prefer the Nytro. Lower COG, rails better and faster than the Viper. If you get the XTX only thing I did was change the spring on the rear skid front shock cause it was blowing thru the stroke, Bought a set of mountain skis with snowtrackers. And it goes and steers were I want it, as hard and fast as I want it to go. Save your money on the mountain front end cause if you put the mountain skis on you can mount them to the outside and give yourself a wider 2 inch stance for trail riding, or mount them to the inside for better off trail powder riding. Best of both worlds. 10,000 miles with no issues.
 
I need new ball joints ... how much is that ? just wondering might as well just get the mountain kit , every body that puts them on likes them . and I think the stock ski with
the 8'' slimjim is going to be the ticket ?
 
I would not change a thing on my nytro...My sled was fawking rock'n this season!!!!!!:die

I put the Mountaintech 43+2 front end on my XTX. Best money I've spent. NO ski lift and although I don't understand why, it seem to ride noticibly nicer. It made no difference fitting in my 12' clam trailer.
 
Best start get the one with gytr shocks in front. Or just buy an older one and buy new elka or axis shocks for front and rear from a place like hygear that will build valve and spring it for your weight and riding style. I had rtx with the adjustable rear shocks and got the $800 trail pro pkg which made these shocks awesome imo and just replaced the front air shocks with coilovers. If you have the gytr they have awesome upgrades for all the shocks or ditch for a great set from start. Oilite bushings once needed for the front end is a great and nessacary upgrade. Next is wrp seat. It puts you in a much more agressive and comfortable riding position, and it adds 2" of foam between you and the seat pan which really helps the ride quality. Next is get oft relocate and get risers/bars that fit you and your riding position to make you most comfortable. After that every upgrade (skis, a-arms, performance etc etc) is purely up to you on what you would like and prefer
 
I'm currently testing the Mountaintech 40"+2" a-arm kit. If you are a crossover rider then this is the way to convert the Nytro into a true 50/50 sled! Way more stable on trail then the stock arms, then once you leave the trail it turns into a real beast! I am so happy with how it handles now.
 
That's a lot of info guys,thanks very much.I am really thinking I'd prefer the Nytro to an Apex just for the riding position plus I'm not sure I need as much HP as what an Apex has any more.It's the fact that you sit up more on a Nytro that interests me the most,the old knees just can't handle the sit down riding style much more and I figure it was either put a Boss seat or make a seat riser for my SRX and revalve the skid shocks to get a better ride or just upgrade to a newer sled with everything on it that I'm already looking for.
 
The weight! Other than that it is fine after all my mods. I even thought it was good out of the box. I just hate how is sinks in the deep stuff and it can be hard to boon dock. Side hill never goona happen. You really have to work hard to keep it on it's side. Now off the tear skid out to fix busted front spring perch. Bent it after shooting off a 7 foot embankment onto the road. I felt like superman.
 
I love my nytro. You couldn't sell me yamacat if you tried. Only thing that must be done is tunnel block off kit. Icing is bad! And x wheels, hyfax wears fast on stock wheels! The rest depends on which model you get, the type of riding you do and how big or tall you are. Most guys say you have to get steering relocate. I disagree. I'm 5'10" and I love position of handle bars but I mostly trail ride and only stand over the big bumps. So it all depends on you. I say defiantly get a nytro ride it and then see how ya feel. The motor is awesome. A stock nytro will only get you 100mph maybe. if ya want more there are plenty of mods but if you just trail ride and never lake race how much more do ya need? I just saw a brand new xtx for $8700, so there are good deals out there. The 2013 rtx I have handles great And it's all stock Other than the 2 things I mentioned.
 
I'm no lightweight by any means,I probably go 245 without my gear on,so I would imagine a spring upgrade would be in order and a shock revalve.As far as riding goes I'd say that 97% is trail and the very odd time I'll horse around on a lake or cove with the guys,but generally I don't go off trail much,learned a long time ago that getting stuck and digging out just wasn't that much fun no matter what I was riding.If I do find the right deal between now and next fall on a Nytro I'll be asking more questions on clutching and what not,I am no stranger to clutching and gearing and those kind of mods,but when it comes to 4 stroke engine mods that'll be a learning experience.I do like to mess around with setups to get as much as possible out of a sled within reason.I guess I'll just have to see what I can find for a sled.

You can blame the nicer ride on the fact that the spindles are 2" further forward than stock.
