What year of sled do I have?

Did I get hosed buying this for 5 grand? :o| the snowmobile does have a valid minnesota registration. Just no vin on sled.
very easy to change hoods, (i.e. reg # on hood.) something doesn`t seem right here

A vin number was made up when the sled was registered. The sleds make on the registration is homeade

I would drill the two rivets out and see what is behind that plate.

You should be able to feel up inside the tunnel or look to see if it is covering a hole. If there is no hole then it would be my guess that the original number is ground off. From what I know Yamaha cuts the vin's out leaving a hole so the story of it being a pre pro or demo sled from Yamaha is maybe not the case and sounding more suspicious. Do you know the person you bought it from personally or was that the story he gave you about working for Yamaha?

Well guess what found a hole :o| I do not know him personally but he worked for arctic cat for many years and now working for yamaha. He showed me a few yamaha tunnel projects he was working on. An extremely nice guy. He also has gets me cost price on yamaha parts!!. I cant remember what he called it (demo, prototype). He said yamaha makes some of these sleds and employees are allowed to buy them.

Yamaha personel can buy production sled but demo sleds are supposed to be demolished after use and not for resale. There is a certain vendor that makes turbos that got busted selling a sled like this a few years ago.

ride it like you stole it!!
;)!
If you have some registration papers for the sled slap the sticker on and ride.
I would not plan on selling it tho.
Find a tunnel on ebay i just saw a few from parted out sleds if you are worried.
I dont know if i would want to be pulled over for speeding or something and not have a registration and no vin.

It is registered just no vin on sled. Has a made up vin on registration. Will I be screwewd if I get pulled over?

I can't say for you Americans, but in Ont Canada..you have to have a vin. and every vehicle has one...however, if it doesn't you can get one issued from the Ministry of Transportaion (I've seen this done with KIT cars, and trucks that built from the parts left over buy Zamboni manufacturers as they only use the frame). I would be checking with your local police dept and DMV ( or what ever you call it). I have never heard of this with a snowmobile....doesn't seem right to me.

What I did was make a plate for over the hole and had my own vin stamped in to the plate (local fab shop had the stamp's and did it for me for a couple buck's, looked very nice) and rivited it on over the hole. In your case being you have a vin with a reg I would put that vin on the plate because in Wisconsin the first thing a warden does is match the vin on the card with the vin on the sled. If any one question's it tell them it is a custom built sled with an aftermarket tunnel and that is the way you bought it. I don't think resale will be a problem other than it will look a little fishey and may scare some off.

LOL, looks exactly like mine did.

My bet is that sled was stolen. Looks like a 2 year out cut out the VIN. No way Yami made that cut.

Do the right think and report it. If it's legit he will have a bill of sale from Yamaha (but he wont)
