I have an 05 Griz 660. The left front wheel has a lot of deflection. I assume it's the bearing as I have a big wheel kit on it and we all know those big tires are hard on the equipment. Anyway, I can't get the main bearing bolt loose. The service manual shows this as a sloted nut with a cotter pin. (similiar to what you would see on a car) My machine has a nut with a tall shoulder that has been bent in to prevent it from backing off. Regardless the nut won't come loose. I have tried a torch, impact wrench, breaker bar, penetrating oil etc.. Am I missing something?

I thought of that also. I won't budge either direction.
its not a left hand,i have done many of them, its just damn tight, the way i do it is slide a 2 ft pry bar between the studs, make sure you put the nuts on and rotate till the bar touches the floor then take a wrench and loosen it,most of the time i have to stand on it to crack it loose,i weigh 225 so you will need weight, works every time, once the nut is off its very easy to change, you will need snap ring pliers and sometimes a press to get old 1 out,but last 1 i did,i used my vise and a hammer and taped it out

Thanks Pat the Rat. I braced the lugs with a 2 ft breaker bar and used 2ft breaker bar with all my weight (200 lbs) still would not budge. Then I took a die grinder and cut some reliefs in the main bearing bolt, heated it with a torch and threw my 200 lbs at it again. Finally it spun off. Wow what a project. I'm sure the reassembly won't be nearly as eventful. Any recommendations on replacement bearings? are the cheap ones as good as the more expensive "yamaha" bearings?
Thanks again
Thanks again
glad it worked out,and with heat,it helps alot, all the grizzlies i did, they went with genuine bearings,my bro went aftermarket last summer so its too early to tell wich one will last longer, myself,i always go genuine, they are double the price of the other ones though,''all balls racing'' have them and should be as good as oem and are half price, good luck

I usually work with Port Yamaha. They are great. I went over there yesterday and they suggested a set of aftermarket bearings. $45.00 for a pair in stock vs. the Yamaha bearings which are $62.00 a piece (124.00 a pair) list. Call Kevin (262-377-5480) over there if you want some solid parts advise. They will ship them to you.

The bearings suggested were Pivot Works bearings. www.pivotworks.com.
