Hey guys, sorry to beat this to death but when do you think I should replace the donut gaskets? I just bought my sled last season. 2007 apex GT. It had 1000kms on it and now sits around 3400kms. Should I run it another season? I plan on putting on another 2500-3000kms.
So far no problems other than idler wheels.

Thanks for your input, absolutely love this site!

I did mine at 3200 miles.

As far as mileage goes you could be fine for another season. Because this is a well known issue I would do it now in the off season to prevent an early failure of the donuts.
Early failure could cost you more money replacing the Ypipes and a longer downtime in the short riding season sourcing and replacing the parts.

mine were toast at 4500 . Any backfire yet if so you should do it

Because it's not that hard to get to the point where you can inspect them I would at least take a look at them. If you don't let them get too bad the pipes will last. If you let them wear too much you will be investing in new Y Pipes. The newer OEM gaskets last better than the original o6 -07 gaskets.

could you add a location as per site rules please?

as to km before replacement, you should be good for one more season on them. I did not do the ones on my 05 rx war until about 8000km but I did need to replace the y-pipes as I ran with them bad for at least 2 long days. depends some too on your local trails. here is rough so the sleds flex more. just finished re-riveting the bulkhead to the frame on the 05 but now has 15000+ km.

do the wet rag test, turn on machine , let it warm up. get two microfiber cloths and dip in water and totally saturate cloth. insert one microfiber cloth into each exhaust outlet at back of machine. fiche sled dies within a couple of seconds (stalls) donuts are good to go. no need to change them. I did mine several years ago and they are still good today after thousands of kms. also made some adjustments when I replaced them. I did not completely tight town the two allen key bolts that hold the y pipes to the tunnel. I also enlarged the two holes that hold the muffler to the tunnel. this allows the y pipes and muffler to move slightly reducing the wear on the donut gaskets. how do I know it works. I hear a slight rattling noise when the machine first starts up. after getting on the trail the noise disappears after the exhaust has expanded.

Pretty smart rx1 man!

You know, I think I will still pull it down and check and make sure the pipes aren't loose at the donuts.
I actually have a set of replacement donuts that a friend gave me. If they is any play at the joint then I will replace.

Plus.... When us yammy guys brag about reliability, we absolutely cannot have break downs!

Had one set go at about 3200 miles,,and my buddy's went about 4,000 miles. You will hear it if they are bad, also performance won't be the same. Try the copper ones if you are replacing IMO

Mine went at 4k. It's better to change them before you crack a pipe.

If you bought the sled brand new and have never changed the Ypipes you might want to start looking for a set to change out when needed. Also buy some copper donuts and exhust gaskets, head gasket/. That way when they (ypipes and donuts) fail and they will you will have everything to get it done. Only a mornings work. I put all new gaskets on mine when doing it. They say you can reuse them but for the short money I didn't want to worry about it.
